Kato, I am currently in a free week trial at the gym. Everything seems to be cool with it except the pool time. I am at work by 7 AM and get off at 4 PM. Yesterday I went over after work and the pool was packed. I asked one of the guys when is the best time to get in the pool and not have classes going on or otherwise packed? He said they open at 6AM and generally it's free then then get's pretty heavy use from 8 AM till 11 AM and again from around 3 PM till 8 PM.

I looked into some of the elliptical equipment and they do have some so I will be trying some of them out. Didn't get to talk with the nutritionist but hope to catch her tomorrow.

There is another gym further into town that I will be checking out as well and looking into pool availability.

I guess you could say I am still on the phone Kato but am on hold.

Nice work bud. You don't need the nutritionist, but if it helps motivate you to learn about differeant diets and work towards your goal power to ya. I'd recommend waking up at 530 and htiting that pool at 6am for a great fat burning session. Not to mention when you are done you'll be hungry for a nice big breakfast to keep your matabilism up along with energy for the day.

This is a great scenario wally.

Ok Kato, further update for ya.

Turns out our insurance automatically turns everyone down for the surgery. You have to re-apply a second time only to automatically be turned down again. Then you have to re-apply a third time where it then goes before a board based on medical necessity and generally gets approved. While all that is going on you have to adhere to a doctor prescribed diet for at least 6 months.

So I fully intend to jump through all the hoops and still go with the surgery but along the way I will have documented proof that regular dieting doesn't work. Also will follow through with the gym stuff as well. Plus I have x-rays to show proof that regardless of getting the weight off my knees are in such bad shape that if it doesn't happen sooner rather than later I am facing being disabled which is NOT an option.

this is good. thanks wal.

my concern is this:

I will have documented proof that regular dieting doesn't work. Also will follow through with the gym stuff as well.

i need you to be in a positive frame of mind and really devote yourself to make a change

you mentioned how important this is for you

i have your back

you can do this

Wally

if you do into to this with PRIDE... saying of course i've always been right and diet cannot work for me....

you will "fail" over this 6 months.

your refusal to believe that burning more kcals than what you consume/burn basally is akin to math people refusing to believe that a "capper" has much of a chance of beating 110 lines over 500 plays

Wally, you are an athlete, you are disciplined, you are stubborn, you are a survivor, you push past pain barriers where normal humans give up, .... put that to use over the next 6 months

Arch, basic diets are not gonna have me on less than 800 calories per day. I have repeatedly said that is where I have to be while being inactive to lose any amount of weight but that with so few calories there is lethargic energy levels as well.

In the past 1500 calories coupled with active lifestyle has produced weight loss so even though I am not as active as I once was maybe the pool/gym stuff will help make-up some of the loss.

Arch, I think you are assuming negativeness with an understanding of what has been already proven in my situation. I will give these things an honest go but merely being positive about it will hardly make a difference in the outcome. It's difficult to impose positivity over genetics.

i've met hundreds of people that think its been proven

they just couldn't count calories

hell your big fat brain, heart, stomach, intestines and butthole can't sustain itself on 800 cals a day if you laid in bed 24-7

c'mon

800 cals? Walls, you're body is conserving fat at that point because you are starving it. Body not dumb Wally. Your resting metabolism alone puts you probably near needing 1500 or more calories. But you need quality calories, not fries and cokes. Chicken, fish, veges, even whole wheat pasta, those are the goods wal.

If you're getting less than 800 cals and losing weight a majority of it is likely muscle. Your fat:muscle ratio actually increases and you get less healthy while losing weight. Wally, let me help. Come to OKC champ.

Personally I have never made it past 4 weeks at 800 calories per day. The first week really isn't that difficult except from the standpoint of basically not eating. Week 2 it's fairly easy and you have adjusted. Week 3 you have very little energy and by week 4 there is no hunger but you feel like total crap.

I agree that muscle goes first and any weight loss during such a short period of time was probably just muscle reduction for the most part. i also agree that long-term health issues would most likely happen. I'm also not saying that I plan on doing 800 calories per day either. Maybe a week to start for shock but definitely not more than 2 weeks.

I doubt any doctor will prescribe that anyway. I do know at the Metabolic Center they do suggest less than 1000 per day for the first 2 weeks. Basically you eat thin sliced turkey, raw broccoli and the like. Even they come up over the less than after 2 weeks though.

Wal try walking first. Keep increasing the pace gradually to build up your cardio. Then you can start running and build up your endurance. Also doing some weight lifting between the days you do cardio will help. My wife is a PT and if you want to lose the weight permanently you have to do it the right way. Dieting and pills alone will not do the work for you.

I eat a lot of food daily but because I burn the calories at the gym I never gain any weight.
