I have mixed feelings about the Oscar boycotts over lack of black recognition.
A point I keep hearing is, this is two straight years now with no blacks in any of the acting categories. 40 Nominations and no blacks? That's wrong.
Well here's my opinion: it's right. To my way of thinking. Objectively, I would not have nominated a single black person in any of those the last 2 years. Sorry but no performance has been good enough. Bottom line.
Having said that, some of the white nominations are completely dopey. Stop nominating Jennifer Lawrence for stuff. Rooney Mara, Keira Knightley - are you fucking kidding me? Matt Damon? I could go on.
So as much as I can say fine, the academy screws up - the fact is I'm still replacing those dopey noms with other white folk. I'm sure as fok not nominating Will Smith and I'm SURE AS FOK not nominating Michael Jordan. But if the academy were to do that, it would not be out of place.
Plus they have ten spots available for Best Picture - and they only used 8. Throw in Creed and Straight Outta Compton. I don't believe they belong there on merit - but neither does Bridge of Spies or The Martian or Mad Max.
It would be a straight-up condescending move - but I think the complainers would buy it.
That is all.
