Birdman's subtitle is "the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance," and people still somehow think it's not condescending and/or patronizing. It's a narrated treatise on authenticity, and I find that people who spend this much time telling you what they are tend not to be what they think they are. Birdman has become, very quickly, the movie you're not allowed to criticize this year--which should, frankly, be your first warning. Oscar Wilde said "everything popular is wrong." That's weird. I saw the movie as agreeing with Walter's general stance. I saw it ultimately as a criticism/mocking of pretentions surrounding authenticity.

Yeah, I obviously didn't agree with Walter's take, either.

I didn't feel like Birdman was preaching anything to me as much as it was telling a story of different people dealing with their issues regarding authenticity, relevance, etc.

I'm not totally sure what I saw. A lot of the imagery - which my brain wants to take as metaphor - and I only know one way to interpret it - was not always harmonious with the action. I can kinda shoehorn it into a coherent meaning but I was not always sure what was being said.

Big picture, I guess it was just an examination of things without really taking a side. Everybody kinda sucks. But I felt like the slight nod was given to just being happy with whatever makes you happy regardless of all that pretentious crap.

I watched most of the 1st season, didn't make it farther than that. It's a poor mans Game of Thrones, so if you don't like GOT you probably won't like Vikings.

LOL! I'm thinking the same but Kirk D was badass! Tony C no doubt too pretty! Movie producers probably thought the same thing so Tony C no doubt was the logical choice in Some Like It Hot which came out one year after The Vikings!

BTW Season 4 of Louie also gets an 8.9 from me. I did not care for the Pamela arc at the end of the season, it was too conventional. I enjoyed the disjointed, seemingly-random episodes the best.

We watch a lot of fokkin' TV when it's minus 10 outside.
