Also did not care for the Pamela arc. I get it, we are reversing the traditional roles of the sexes. Louie is the woman. You can stop hammering me over the head with it.

Having given up on Penny Dreadful, I am getting ready to rewatch Homicide: Life on the Street from the start. All 170 (or whatever) 1-hour episodes. Well, 44 minute episodes I guess.

Okay, it's 122 44-minute episodes. I have seen it on KAT.

I don't know that I am recommending that. Not sure how it will stand up although I expect it will be at least good. But that will be an ongoing thing for me starting soon and lasting a fairly long time I guess.

Predestination (2014)

I must be on an Ethan Hawke kick or something because I just watched Boyhood and now this one. This was actually a well done film, unlike Boyhood. Hard to give it a real review without giving away the ending so I'll keep it short. Good character development and a fast moving story. The Jodie Foster/Leo Dicaprio hybrid was great, unsure who that is. Hawke was decent enough though I think he'll always be better in supporting roles. Solid flick, good twists.

7.5 Cougar Baits

Predestination (2014) - Can't say too much about this without spoiling it. In a weird coincidence, the same actor plays a scientist working on time-travel-related stuff in both this movie and Edge of Tomorrow.

Great visuals but slow pace - the screenplay is based off of a 13-page short story, so they had to stretch the sauce a fair bit. Ethan Hawke and the lead actress are terrific.

Recommended to all but ADHD types.

8.1 Matty Rains

I read the short story that Predestination is based on, it's really clever.

Obviously, DO NOT READ unless you want to spoil the movie for yourself:

I didn't see it as a role reversal per se - I mean, if you re-reverse the roles, Louis would be turning away from the most awkward kiss ever, and then he would invite Pamela to take a candle-lit bath. It's still really ghey.

I saw it as the uncommon portrayal of a guy who's subjugated by a woman. TV never shows that. So it was good in that sense, but I thought they spent too much time on it. I kept waiting to be taken on a surreal ride again, but the show did away with the random vignettes towards the end of the season.

I want my surreal Louie back.

MrX
Two islands are located exactly 18 miles apart. One island's lone occupant is Amy Ryan. The other, much sexier island is inhabited by only Emma Stone.

Posters Mudcat and MrX are thrown from a boat into open ocean exactly halfway between these two islands.

Which poster arrives at which island first?

Poster MrX to the Emma Stone island because poster Mudcat would get run over the boat repeatedly by captain poster Housepicks.

So Boyhood wins Best Drama at the Golden Globes and The Grand Budapest Hotel is Best Musical/Comedy.

A couple of underwhelming movie-watching experiences for me right there (although, as always, I acknowledge the off-the-charts novelty value of Boyhood and do not question Linklater winning Best Director.)

No real smooth way to move on from that to another topic so I guess I'll just awkwardly take the plunge: what's with these shows I never heard of getting nominations and awards.

Transparent with Jeffrey Tambor wins for Best Comedy Series. It's been out since last February.

Where the? Who the?

Never heard of it till the last couple days.

There is something called Mozart in the Jungle :dunno:

Transparent beat, among other things, something called Jane the Virgin.

What is this shit?

:dunno:
