Masters of Sex has steadily improved through season 1. At the start, there were a lot of missteps and for every really nice moment there was a major facepalm, but it seems to have found its stride.

At the start, I used to record it on Sunday and get around to watching it more-or-less grudgingly by Thursday or something, but now I look forward to it a bit and watch it on Sunday. I rated it 6 after the first few episodes but I would say it's a 7 now.

It is impossible not to compare it to Mad Men. It seems like it wants to be Mad Men. It's not quite Mad Men but it's got some good qualities. Too bad about the stupid Title and opening credits sequence.

Then again, Mad Men is kind of a stupid title too.

I take the title Mad Men to be a combo play on Madison (Avenue) Men - while having the obvious double entendre ---> that the guys are, like, whacky madmen.

Problem is they're really not. I mean some of them do crappy stuff but to apply the term madmen to the behavior ---> big contrived stretch. That's why it's a stupid title. Half the double entendre is ludicrous.

Same deal with Masters of Sex. It's like okay, it is William Masters of sex research. Fair enough. But the double entendre is completely half-baked.

Basically my message is, stop trying so hard to be clever people. Double entendres only work if they work.
