Fokkin hell. I was all settled in to watch 12 Years a Slave which I had downloaded - and the beginning was missing. Important shit had obviously already happened. I ain't gonna watch like that.

I looked for another copy but a bunch of them had comments like, "The start is missing from this one too."

And then a few of them had no comments at all but by then my confidence was completely shaken.

Can't even trust illegally pirated video. What kind of a world?

So I guess The Hobbit trilogy is not doing as well as they hoped. It does not seem to be even a shadow of Lord of the Rings.

Not that I gave much of a shit about Lord of the Rings, but I was very aware of it. There was the year the third one won all the Oscars (except for acting), but more than that there was just a general constant awareness throughout the trilogy. There was discussion of box office and goofy fanboiz making fanboi noises.

I haven't researched any figures or whatever, but I am definitely not getting the same vibe with The Hobbit, nowhere near.

If there is shit-giving going on, they are keeping very low key about it.

Just took a quick look. The first Hobbit grossed a bit worse than the LOTR flicks but not crazy worse. Like 300 mil vs 350 mil.

Due to the bigger budget, it was quite a bit less profitable - but still profitable.

It (The Hobbit) has an 8.0 rating at imdb. That's high. Who knew?

The second installment hasn't been released yet and is rated 9.1 right now.
