Season 4 of Boardwalk Empire wrapped up on Sunday. There was a lot of complaining throughout the season on the imdb discussion board. I haven't glanced over there since the last episode but I'm sure it has only gotten more intense. Some shit happened and things changed and people freak out about change.

It was an interesting season for me. It started off very sublime. It was like Mad Men. The episodes just washed over me. The realism is incredible and the acting is good and there are no contrivances so I can just get completely wrapped up in that world. I didn't know where it was going - it was following about 11 different plotlines - but I was enjoying it and ready to see where it would flow.

Then there were a couple of really weird decisions in the penultimate episode. I still don't know if one is even remotely plausible - but maybe. Anyone that episode had me rattled all week.

Really enjoyed the finale though and definitely look forward to season 5.

Very fine show IMO.

Agreed.

Excellent show, looking forward to next season.

It was weird with Boardwalk Empire. People were bitching and complaining all through the season and it was (mostly) excellent. Then things got increasingly weird as the end approached - not horrible but there were some questionable bits - and everyone settled right down.

:dunno:

Extreme departure from season 3 - that's for sure.

Based on my lack of enthusiasm for the first Hunger Games movie, I doubt I will watch the new one. Seems like the reviews have been mostly good though.

Michael Phillips made a comment that stuck with me:

"Consider Catching Fire an example of successful franchise installment delivery, on time and in sturdy condition."

Muddy, do you ever watch shows without the assistance of the imdb chat rooms/forums?

I am not aware of chat rooms but I take at least a quick glance at the imdb forums after 72% of movies that I watch.

Shows? That is hard to say. Like I have looked at the South Park forum in my life but I don't after every episode, not even close. Most shows would be like that. Depends if there is something I am unclear on that comes up or I feel a desire to compare notes about something.

Or sometimes I predict certain reactions from the hordes - like after last week's Family Guy - and I just want to confirm my brilliance in understanding human nature.

They are truly awful forums in the big picture. There is so incredibly much stupid stuff in there. They are festering pools of human cliche. I engage very seldom. But usually if I have a question - and I often do - I can pick through and find an answer in there.

Totes.

So here is my question for the day for whomever cares to weigh in:

If the song Tiny Dancer came on, would you be able to sing along with the whole thing word-for-word? Not just refrain but verses too? If not today, was there ever a time you could have?

Answer for me is no. I used to be a pretty big Elton John fan in the 70's but even then, no.

Elton John's Someone Save my Life Tonight was big hit that came out one summer in HS and must have heard it a million times so closest thing to knowing all the lyrics! The girls loved it!

MrsM not a fan of him, and her and her sis called him Elfen John! Lol!

I got the sheet music to the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album back in the 70's. I still have it. I fiddled with it quite a bit. I imagine I could still play Funeral for a Friend just from muscle memory.

Some real good stuff in there. Title tune. Benny and the Jets. Tiny Dancer was not from that. Tiny Dancer was/is one of my least favorite Elton John hits.

I recently rewatched Almost Famous which has the scene where everyone on the bus knows the words to Tiny Dancer and it always seems weird to me. Almost Famous is a really good movie IMO - a rare 9 out of 10 - so I probably shouldn't just jump to the one criticism but I guess that's what I did. It's not even a criticism - it's a good scene dramatically - it just always seems implausible to me that everyone knows that song.

If I were allowed to mumble the first couple words of some lines and then pipe up when I realized which line it was, I think I could do it.

However, the only reason I know as much of it as I do is because I've probably watched Almost Famous 6 or 7 times.

Maybe that's it. Maybe they had all just watched Almost Famous a bunch of times and that's why they knew it.

I have to admit, I like the song better because of its inclusion in Almost Famous. Before, I tended to just dismiss it but it seems more legitimate to me now. Still not a fave but it's got a place.
