I'm finding the current season of Boardwalk Empire very unusual. Unlike last season where they basically walloped you over the head with a dominant plot in episode 1, this is very deliberate and scattered. Deliberate I don't mind. I kind of feel like they need to be less scattered though. I guess it depends if/how they tie things together. Gillian seems way out in left field now. Same with Richard and his sister. The Chicago scene with Al Capone and Michael Shannon etc. is somewhat interesting although the show is Boardwalk Empire. Feels like stuff should be connected to Nucky/Chalky et al.

They've had J. Edgar Hoover make an appearance. Eli's boy seems to be getting more prominent.

Lots going on.

Think I'll have to pass, I can't watch the first few seasons of something and then stop even if it's terrible I must finish. Except for weeds, that just wasn't possible.

If that's how you feel, Dexter would be a bad choice. The difference between the highs and lows is extreme. I don't know why/how I stuck with it. It is not unusual at all for me to abort something I'm not enjoying.

Dunno. Just stupid.

i firmly expected dexter to end up faking his death...but i figured he would end up with his kid and the broad...he wanted to save them from him, but he left his kid with another killer? jaysus...they couldnt wait to get this season done :sbrjohn:

I thought South Park was pretty good.

Meanwhile I have been watching the movie Bugsy and it is not as good as I was expecting/remembering. I definitely don't love Warren Beatty's acting. And there are some major problems with the way it is constructed and some clumsy scenes.

I think I had it in my head that it was on par with some of Scorsese's good stuff. What I am finding is it wishes so bad it was that - but no frickin way.

Still some time to go. I am resisting looking up the imdb rating to see if the world is on the same page as me or what.

Yeah, Bugsy is not rated like some kind of classic. It's 6.7. I think that's a hair over the average rating on imdb but not much.

It was nominated for Best Picture and I am used to a high level of unwarranted exaltation for Warren Beatty, but I guess that is just the Academy and not the general public. It is considered an average movie which is how I feel.

Watching what I think must be Showgirls. I remember it getting a bad rap for some reason. It does seem to have some ridiculous stuff but the strip dancing by that Jesse or whatever is top notch

ok, its getting dumber by the minute. Still though this movie had potential,

New season premiers of 60 Minutes, The Simpsons and Family Guy tonight.

60 Minutes will probably have its time bracket mucked up by the NFL. That's how it tends to go at this time of year. Great show though.

It's hard to imagine The Simpsons ever rebounding from where it has sunk for so long - still I carry on.

Family Guy - not sure how to wear my expectations.

Some shit wraps up (Dexter, The Newsroom, Ray Donovan), other shit starts up ---> always Sunday. The fuck is it with everything having to be on Sunday?

Mother came to visit last week and gave me the first two seasons of Homeland on DVD.

I'm 3 episodes in and liking it very much.
