He toned down the really intense George Costanza type stuff. It's almost like he had Jerry Seinfeld looking over his shoulder urging him to keep things softer and more friendly. There was some of the neurotic banter but it was more focused on funny than uncomfortable.

The plotting was actually pretty clever. Absurd but clever.

Anyone else watch the premier of that new AMC thing, Low Winter Sun?

Seemed like it might be solid. Seemed more promising than most of my Sunday night lineup - Dexter, The Newsroom, Ray Donovan - which involves a lot of asking myself why am I watching this?

A bit dry but it has possibilities.

The extended preview for it made my face make strange expressions. If you and Matty give it high ratings down the road I will watch it.

low winter sun was pretty fucking intense... give it a watch, dafty...

i cant be the only person extremely pissed that Southland was cancelled...the last few episodes of that show were definitely some of the most hardcore shit i have ever seen on tv... hopefully another network will pick them up, but its doubtful.

My concern about Low Winter Sun is it is setting up as yet another show where there is no one to care about. While I appreciate the evolution of drama from the days of Dickens or early film where everyone was 2-dimensionally heroic or dastardly; I like that characters can now be flawed and conflicted. But I still like to have people where I care if they win or lose, live or die. It helps a lot.

So far in this show, everyone is kinda awful.

Ray Donovan is like that. Don't care about anyone. Might not last much longer with that.

The Newsroom is like that (although that is more of a case of poor execution. I am obviously supposed to care about certain characters but in attempting to make them cute and quirky, the writers failed and made them annoying and I-wouldn't-mind-never-seeing-you-again.)

Like, Tony Soprano was a horrible person but he liked animals and he had to deal with terrible snotty teenage kids like I put my parents through. I can feel something for Tony.

Some of these shows though - I dunno.

Seems like everything is on Sunday.

There are about 10-12 weekly shows that I watch and they all air new episodes on Sunday.

Everything I watch now is Sunday and I'm pretty sure all the stuff on hiatus is Sunday.

60 Minutes
Breaking Bad
Dexter
The Newsroom
Ray Donovan
Low Winter Sun
The Simpsons
Family Guy
Shameless
Mad Men
Nurse Jackie
Veep

I think that's it. And I think it's all Sunday. I guess the only question is South Park. I don't know what night that will be on if/when they ever have new episodes. South Park has bounced around over the years like flubber.

Still though, that's a lot of Sunday. The hell is up with that?
