I'm a huge fan of A Clockwork Orange so I have to disagree with Reno. Lots going on there. Love the ending too, and lots of people didn't or didn't get it. Great piece of art right there. Not every day that you can say a film is real art but that one is, I love the character study and narration. I'm a sucker for a good narrator. It's also one of the first times I can remember the protagonist being a really retched person who you ultimately pull for. It's done in movies all the time now, but in 1971 I would garner it was done less. In fact I believe until the late 60's there were rules on this in Hollywood. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there was some code the writers and directors had to follow.

I know nothing of Battleship Potemkin. Reading up on it now it seems pretty good. It was banned in the West for revolutionary zeal.
Ok, I'll go with Battleship Potemkin.

I'm not a big fan of movies in general. I would guess 95% of the movies I've watched, I cannot comprehend why anybody would go through the trouble of making them. The few good ones are pretty special.

One of the movies that I was really surprised with liking so much (now that you mention Jack Nicholson) is Chinatown.

Chinatown is one well done movie if you've never seen it.

Supposedly there were some questionable things going on while the camera wasn't rolling, but the actual movie is a definite must watch.

Just checking through my ratings and it is of only limited help. Apart from the fact that I've only been recording ratings for ~6 years so there is a whole bunch of stuff missing, it is clear I am much more charitable in my ratings of older movies.

However I see Catch-22 rated 9 in there and that's legit. That would be up there for me. In The Heat of the Night is a 9.

Robin Hood (1938) is a 9. That one has me scratching my head a bit. I don't remember that so well but that Errol Flynn was quite the charismatic dude so I guess I was swept off my feet.

The Dirty Dozen was a fun movie from 1967. It might be somewhere on my list of pre-Godfather favorites.

I didn't realize before but I see there were sequels.

The Dirty Dozen: Next Mission (1985)
Dirty Dozen: The Deadly Mission (1987)
The Dirty Dozen: The Fatal Mission (1988)

They had some of the original actors/characters and then brought in some fresh faces. While the original is rated 7.8, The sequels are all rated 4.8 - 5.2 based on pretty small numbers of votes.

Looks like it might be fair to describe them as "abortions."

Erik Estrada was in the last one.

Roman Holiday (1953) - Watched this outside while sitting on the grass, which I do not recommend. Felt like 2 hours of awkward yoga.

Movie itself was surprisingly funny and well-acted for its time. 24yo Audrey Hepburn is just stunning.

Would that be considered the original rom-com? Anyhoo that was pretty enjoyable, not too gay.

Looking forward to the sequel.

8.2 Matty Rains
