I'm pretty excited about the new Woody Allen movie. Very good cast (not that I'm all that excited about Alec Baldwin but the role he's in seems appropriate). Good early reviews. Seems like he's hitting a stride lately. He does that. He makes basically a movie a year but he'll go through these 5-7 year periods where almost everything is good. Not sure how everyone felt about Midnight In Paris but I really enjoyed it. And, quite remarkably, that movie made over 150 million worldwide.

Woody Allen movies never fail to disappoint me. Occasionally one gets a buzz going and I think, 'Okay, the guy is a hack but maybe this time he has fluked on to something. Maybe I'll give him another try.'

I always end up regretting it.

Since 1980 there have been maybe a handful of his movies I would rate as tolerable. Not good but tolerable. Most are not tolerable.

It would take some major unnatural upheaval to get me to ever try him again.

Interesting. Agree to disagree there.

What did you think of Match Point? Deconstructing Harry? Or Hannah and Her Sisters?

I'd grade those as 3 of his better films since 1980.

Though I also liked Stardust Memories which came out in 1980 and most critics panned.

Woody Allen is Lucy but I ain't Charlie Brown. I have learned my lesson.

One of Meryl Streep's daughters is on The Newsroom. It's hard to evaluate her performance because there is only one character on the show. Everyone is the same character with the same speech pattern and sense of humor and references and traits.

FWIW she is that character just fine.
