50/50 (2011) - This is a movie that hit all the right notes for me. Very possibly the best picture of last year IMO.

It is about a guy who is diagnosed with cancer which the internet tells him he has a 50/50 chance of surviving (thus the title). He has a relatively small circle of people in his life and they each have their own reaction. It all seemed very authentic and insightful to me. Not particularly because I have had a few people close to me go through the cancer diagnosis - and subsequent treatment. But just because it does. It has some very funny moments but it is also touching without being overbearing.

7.7 out of 10 (rounds off to a rare 8 at imdb for me)

Agreed. Excellent movie.

Ok. I didn't really watch this. But after seeing the title and tagline, I figured it would be something that Bread would thoroughly enjoy...

Machine Gun Preacher - Sam Childers is a former drug-dealing biker tough guy who found God and became a crusader for hundreds of Sudanese children who've been forced to become soldiers.

I gave you an order.

Sleeping Beauty (2011) - Adorable little Emily Browning with her tiny boy boobies is naked for almost the entire movie. Bad news is, so are several old balls dudes. I saw three tiny bushy old dicks, on top of Emily...licking her face, putting out cigarettes on her, telling her she's about to get the horse prick.

Terrible movie, but as you can plainly see, funny at parts.

Paranorman - Finally kade it to theater. Loved this anated film so much. Quite a bit darker than I expected, very funny and fun to watch. 9 RayRay RahRahs.

Midnight in Paris - Not as bad as other senile-era Woody Allen flicks, but still very silly, unpolished and unremarkable. I give it higher marks than I should because of the subject matter that is close to my heart. It's basically Back to the Future for XXth century Lit nerds.

6.3 Matty Rains

Avengers - Not typically something that I enjoy too much, but I was pretty surprised. Pretty good mindless entertainment.

Being Flynn - Not Flynn from Breaking Bad. This stars Robert DeNiro. It's a story that dabbles in the conditions of homelessness, substance abuse, depression, and the "crazies." Overall, it works fairly well. It could have made some more powerful statements though.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close - The story of how a kid deals with his father's death in the World Trade Center. It has a certain eccentric, "Being John Malkovich" type of feel that's almost normal in movies these days. The kid is a bit of a prick and that may be a little bit of a turnoff to some viewers, but he gets a bit of a pass from me due to the importance of his quest. I found it to be a touching movie. Probably should have won Best Picture.

The Dictator - Pretty much what I expected. A lot of toilet humor. Many hits. Many misses. Overall, decent mindless entertainment.

The Expendables - A ridiculous cast of action stars. Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, etc. Pretty lacking in plot. It's pretty much just a movie with enough of a storyline to blow shit up and kill people. I could have gone without seeing it, but I didn't turn it off. So. Yeah.
