 Muddy I was in all seriousness asking what you and many others find interesting about it. need more details, your review is incomplete

I find Cast Away to be a movie that promotes intelligent thought. And not just about things that are hashed over to death but about things I don't think about much. I like that. I can enjoy a turn-your-brain-off movie up to a point, but all my top movies are going to involve thinking. That is who I am.

Specifically there were all the issues relating to the stranded-alone-on-a-deserted-island situation. What would I do? Do I agree with this decision or that? Would I grow crazier or less crazy?

Beyond that, you describe the movie as just being one guy but in fact 30-40 minutes of it (I'm guessing) are not on the island but in civilization. The relationships there generate a whole new set of thoughts and trying to get into people's heads. What is that like for everyone? Tom Hanks meets his woman's husband. :fok: What about the woman? Think of how this all must be for her. How will she react now? Do I like the choices made by the movie or did they not ring true?

Ultimately I thought they made a lot of good decisions and I was not pulled out of the movie because of writing stunts or Hollywood conventions. Maybe a couple times but not a ton. The acting was excellent and the overall production was very good. They could have gone the Lawrence of Arabia route and just drawn it out to hell and beyond, but they chose to focus on a few selected important events and keep things moving. I remained absorbed the whole time.

In general, it was just well suited to my personality. It was thoughtful, and I have done so much camping in my life, I could project myself into it.

And that is what I have to say about that.

I think the whole "crazy" thing is the biggest turnoff about the movie. Why would someone sane suddenly "go crazy" and start talking to a volleyball just because they're stranded? I'd go about my business and try building a boat. That's what I'd do. Doesn't create much thought to me.

The only interesting part is when he gets back to his wife. Unfortunately, that's not the majority of the movie. The movie should have almost started there.

would be much easier for Walden, who is worth a billion, to just give Alan a great paying job at his company and not have to worry about him mooching so much... but i guess 2.5 men would lose quite a bit of its humility comedy if that occured... show still cracks me the fuck up as much as ever

really Ray? You just described a good chunk of the reason why that show is unwatchable.

Forgetting the fact that I find nothing appealing about Cutcher anyway, his character here is unbelievable. The original premise of the show was realistic, interesting and humorous. A guy moving in with his drinking, gambling, womenizing brother after a divorce.

Charlie's outlook and humor I found genuine and sympathetic, although his affairs/troubles with women by the end got a bit old. Although Charlie had money there was never an assumption it was unlimited. This Walden character on the other hand is unbelievable on every level. I haven't watched after the 1st few episodes, maybe it got better. :dunno:

there have been some other turns in the show that i like more than the first few eps. myself... walden changes his name and moves in with a broke girl for a few eps, jake starts boning a milf, then bones her daughter...miley cyrus makes an appearance for a few shows...should give it a few more tries

So it took several seasons but Don Draper showed love and affection to his son. That's kinda big news in TV world, right?

I've never been in a plane that crashed into the ocean and then found myself all of the sudden stranded on an island so I'm not sure how I would react but I've enjoyed Cast Away the 3 or 4 times I've watched it.

It really does surprise me sometimes how often I will watch a movie and there is something in common with the last movie I saw. Generally I am referring to an actor but the next movie I watched after Cast Away was Who Framed Roger Rabbit? I had no idea until after the final shot but it is also directed by Robert Zemeckis.

Well I'll be jiggered.

Watched this movie Love is the Drug also known as Addicted to her Love. It kept me watching mostly because I was too tired to change the channel but for the time I invested in it I agree with Variety's Justin Chang's assessment that the final moments "played like a cheap stunt". It had some entertaining moments watching the geek get in with with the cool party people but that ending was so predictable and quick that it was just flat out unacceptable.

It's remarkable when you think of it.

I started this thread last July which was right when I got all my new channels and gear. Okay.

So pretty much every single night, one of the channels shows hardcore porn. I see it in my listings every day. 3-4 features per night.

The thing that is so remarkable is that, in those 10 months, I have recorded and looked at exactly 1 porn movie. That was probably the second day I had it, and I never went back to it.

There was nothing wrong with the movie to make me say, oh, this is terrible porn. It was pretty normal porn. And it's not that I am not healthy and horny and no longer want stroke material. On the contrary. I just can't be bothered with the porn on my TV.

I remember a time when I sat and watched scrambled porn on TV for long periods of time just hoping for those brief moments of semi-unscrambledness.

Now I have more porn than I can handle being shoved right in my face - and I can't even be bothered. There is other porn - I don't need that porn.

Oh the times we live in.

:lmao: guilty here. the younger generation will never understand what we had to put up with Muddy

When I moved to Toronto, the first thing that came up on the TV after the cable guy left was a close-up of some intense reverse-cowgirl boinking. The roommate was impressed.

Also watched a lot of scrambled porn, on a 13" B&W TV, back when I was 125lbs.
