While Justin Smoak is really a bad baseball player (career .693 OPS at his position is terrible and he's in the top 5 worst 1B in all of baseball) he has been the 2nd "unluckiest" hitter in the Jays starting lineup so far this season.
I took a look and here's what I found:

And the Jays hitter having the "unluckiest" season so far, Joey Bats @ .229 (league average is about .300).
While BABIP is not entirely based on luck, luck is one of three main factors that play into BABIP.
