Today's power shutdowns "will be necessary to facilitate electrical upgrades."

The notice said the power would be out for potentially 2 hours. It ended up being 7.

Monkey, I think if ANYONE on this forum stops and smells the roses.... its mudcat.

I think he knows how to suck the true essence and flavor out of life more than most of us

Do you ever just stop and smell the roses, Mudcat? You know. Just stop for a second. Maybe look at them for a bit. Pick out the prettiest one. And just go in for a sniff?

This can be taken literally and figuratively.

Figuratively, I am terrible for this. Often I will take a break from work and go for a bike ride - I will ride past nice houses and trees and down by the lake where it can be quite ruggedly beautiful - and depending on the time of year there are adorable little ducklings and goslings and whatnot - and I will get back home and realize I have not seen a thing on the whole ride. All I did was think about numbers and strategies and work.

I need to appreciate the nice stuff around me. Life should not be just work and worry. Figuratively I need to stop and smell the roses.

In a literal sense - and it must be noted that the question is framed in a very literal way - I do not remember smelling any roses recently, however there is a park right beside me here called Rhododendron Gardens where there are all kinds of flowers when the weather is good. I have walked through there with Jenny and appreciated the prettiness of things and taken a sniff of some of them.

Again though, not roses. And not often enough. And not recently.

I took three maths in grade 13: Calculus, Algebra and Functions and Relations. Despite being baked out of my potato the whole year, I won the math award for my high school with the highest combined average.

I went to University of Toronto on a full scholarship. First year, as part of the Astrophysics package I was shooting for, I took a Calculus course which I passed.

I embarked on a second year but I was getting too carried away with drugs and I stopped attending lectures and stopped studying. As mid-term exams approached, and I knew there was no chance I could pass, I just dropped out.

Here is a picture of that guy, from my U of T student card:

Muddy, speaking of flowers...... what are your thoughts on buying dead flowers for women?

I've never liked it.....no not even a tad bit

and when I met my fiancee.... a few years before we even started dating..... she was all about "buying flowers is a waste"

then I saw her react after we were dating to some flowers her roomate had gotten from Armando.......

well, I decided to buy her dead flowers out of the blue, and she loved them.

since then I've prob gotten her flowers 5-6 times. never on a "REAL" occasion though.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on buying flowers for women

The presenting of dead flowers to women is an unclear area for me.

It is not something I have done a lot in my life, but I only recall getting basically positive results.

There was a flower-giving incident with my ex where I came off as knight-in-shining-armour heroic - she talked about it glowingly for years - and I didn't even know I was doing what she thought I was doing. There was some kind of super-thoughtful implication/interpretation but it was way more than my actual motivation.

But I let her believe I was just that thoughtful.

I have never given Jenny flowers. I don't think she cares. While she likes growing flowers, receiving dead flowers does not seem like her thing. Just the other day she got going on the futility of some specific flower and how quickly it wilts after it is cut. (Tulips I believe?)

Maybe I should try it sometime just to see what happens.

The only times I have given a woman dead flowers in recent memory was when I was instructed to by another woman. Like Jenny told me to bring an Easter Lily to my sister's place for Easter dinner.

I guess that was a while back.
