I'm sure Hanley really wanted to play for that organization. Really motivating when, after years of MVP-type numbers and being the face of the club, they go out and sign another shortstop and force you to move over to third base.

You can spin it all you want. They've been playing Miami for years. The team has never been run by anyone but conmen. It's amazing how much you love and love to defend shitty products.

They have fucked the Miami market and the taxpayers. If you were a season-ticket holder, would you renew? They will be lucky to retain 50% of them.

I don't see this as a fire sale at all either...

knee jerk non informed reactions...

Pirates have faced the same "fire sale scrutiny" over the past decade, but hind sight shows they did quite well in unloading over valued players at the right time at the Trade deadline over and over. If they had been as lucky and skilled in evaluating the talent they got in return, they'd already be a near dynasty...

I'll disagree. You are defending a team that hasn't had a winning season since Bonds. There has to be a point when you just cannot give your players away because someone values them more. Ownership didn't care because they were getting money from the rich owners. Fans quit coming out because they see no hope and FA's won't come for the same reasons.

which players did they give away at the deadline that they should kept the last ten years?

outsider's perspectives are good to balance out my fan perspective

Is Reyes next? Or Josh Johnson?

As for the Marlins, one AL executive said, (Owner) Jeffrey (Loria) was willing to do anything to make (opening a new stadium) work. They signed the big free agents, tried to trade whatever prospects they had for big players. A lot of people say they go all in, but I dont think anyone ever went all in like they did. There was no plan for 2013 or 14. It was only a 2012 plan trying to build excitement and a fan base and they would figure the rest out later. It was not built to be sustainable. And they fell on their faces.

There was always a cynical belief that Loria was trying to create success and buzz to then quickly sell the team. But, the AL executive said, They had trouble selling tickets and drawing people from the beginning. Now I think they are going to have to go back from being a $100 million payroll team to more of a $62 (million) to $68 million team.

Exactly. NO team has EVER recovered from a 11 game deficit to make the playoffs. Even if they did, they'd have no chance in Hell of winning a series...

Oh. Last year? Cardinals? What? They should have just given up in July.

ARam, Kendall(?), Schmidt(?),J Guillen,F Sanchez, Gorzelanny off the top of my head. Some of these were traded before their walk season. When you continually let your better players go,who wants to play on Pittsburgh? To blame it on the fans is bushleague, fans dont pay for crap products.

Buster Olney said they won't trade any more, they are worried about their perception as a cheap organization.

RIGHTTTTTTTT.

If the Rangers want to give up Olt and Martin for Josh Johnson I would make that trade. Johnson is talented and I wouldn't celebrate him leaving but he lands on the DL for an extended period of time every year. If they wanted to throw in Alfaro, icing on the cake.
