Random thoughts

In talking about an actor with a good batting average, some might point to James Dean who did 3 features, all of which were significant in some way.

Giant
Rebel Without a Cause
East of Eden

No Best Picture winners in there and only one nominee - so big edge to Cazale there - however Dean himself received 2 personal acting nominations out of his 3 features whereas Cazale had none out of 5. So the argument could be made.

Personally I find James Dean to be one of the more unintentionally funny actors of all time but maybe that's just me.

So for the last week, I suddenly start getting the paper I have a Sunday subscription to, every day. I finally phone them up and ask what gives.

"Oh yeah, your subscription was changed."

"I didn't change it."

"No it's a promotion."

"I didn't sign up for any promotion."

"Oh yeah, it was applied automatically."

"That's crazy. Unless I still pay the same. But that doesn't make sense."

"No the charges will go up."

"I don't want it."

"Oh yeah, so you want to just have the Sunday subscription then?"

"You're asking if I want what I signed up for? Yes, I want what I signed up for."

I know the newspaper business is in rough shape but who would that work on? I would think a lot more people would just tell them fuck you and cancel their subscription completely than would let it slide. I would have canceled on principle if I didn't count on their damn Sunday TV magazine.

Wotta bunch of turd burglars.

which James Dean film is the one about the oil business sort of?

I know I saw Rebel, I remember it well. I know I saw the Oil one, but I vaguely recall it. I need to see it again. and I definately need to see the one I never saw.

I also think more movies these days need to have chicken run cliff scenes. Hollywood seems to have forgotten about chicken

is Natalie Wood still alive?

I'd fuk her still, if she is

did you know they used real switch blades in the knife fight scene?

Giant is the epic about the oil business in Texas. It's the one James Dean film that was nominated for Best Picture. I gave it a 6 out of 10 myself.

Natalie Wood was hot in Rebel Without a Cause. Comically bad acting though. The whole film is a classic of unintentional comedy for me - although many people consider it a classic classic.

I of course am right.

But she was hot to look at.

what kind of type do you give the sunday paper person, at christmas?

Nothing. I've never seen my paper delivery person. I go down to the front foyer on Sunday morning and there is a paper there. I get billed through Visa once a month. It is about as impersonal as it gets.

Odd situation. Maybe I am handling it wrong. Maybe I should be going out of my way to track them down so I can tip them? I don't know.

West Side Story is another unintentional comedy classic for me. You've got all these super-tough gang guys dancing ballet. But it's sort of excusable. It's a musical so it's going to be a bit dorky. I like some of the music.

In Rebel Without a Cause though, everyone is a dork and there is no excuse.

If he wanted a tip he would find you probably. If you starting tipping him before you know it you will be inviting in around the holidays for cake and coffee!
