Canadians always remind me of Minnesota and Wisconsin residents.

Slow talking, generally (outwardly) nice people.

Pretty hard to generalize an entire nation whether it's here or there. People from New York City are a bit different than people in Minot, North Dakota. I'm sure there are quite a few differences between people from different parts of Canada as well.

You've built a career in posting on being confrontational it's a little late in life to start trying your hand at diplomacy.

When I watched the news they kept going on about how smart and an honor student this guy was. All the more reason to bring out the Middle Ages torture devises perhaps? :dunno:
But ultimately nobody gives a fuck about Aurora it's not like this is Columbine. Anyway, I only watched for about 15 minutes.

a FB post I came across today about shootings: ( from a super devout christian always posting religion shit)

"I pray they catch this guy and hang him"

ironic? isnt that kinda non-christian ???

tough one...

judeo-christian God invented the death penalty. hell you could get death for working on the sabbath or sassing your mom. but the old testament time jews were definitely supposed to use the death penatly on convicted murderers... eye for an eye shit...

God did give Moses a break though after Moses killed an egyptian and gave him a big "part" same thing with Paul, who was a big ass killer of the nigs following Jesus when his name was Saul.

so God let those two murderers write about 20% of the Bible... mean while his son Jesus who preached forgiveness and saved an adultressing whore from being stoned, by writing in with his finger in the sand....GOT tortured and killed on a cross. If that's NOT bad enough of the 11 remaining apostles after Judas hung himself..... TEN of them got tortured and murdered too!

Exactly. There are vast differences between states. Let's just say that Canada 'could' be a state, obviously more similar to northern states. I wouldn't compare most of it to the big cities in the US.

I've always viewed Canadians as thinking they were superior. This holds especially true on the various forums I've been associated with, the Canadian members just always come off as smug.

I guess if I had to label in a word most Americans it would have to be entitled.

Yep that's what I will go with.

Canada-elitist
Americans-entitled

Huge misconception about Canada. Wrong to the point of being comical.

Canadians are not elitist and do not think of ourselves as superior. That is the pretty close to the opposite of our national character. Canada as a country is extremely humble - well aware of its limitations - self-deprecating - too much so, some would say - and just considers itself one small part of the world community.

Now if you think Canada is elitist just towards the US, there is some truth to that. There is day-to-day exasperation at the noise coming up over the border, particularly the relentless political childishness - occasionally sliding into political horror (a decade-long war in Iraq? Really?) - the goofiness about guns - the resistance towards evolution . . . I could go on. There is a lot of noise and the US is very close by. But the US is just one country in the world, one small piece of the big picture, and Canada's reaction to it is likewise a trifle in the big picture.

Canada is SO humble. If you wanted to say Canada's humility gets extreme to the point of being sickening, that might be something to discuss. But elitist? You just don't know Canada.

There may be a country with a strong tendency to beat its chest and say, "We are the best in the world!! Look how great we are!!" but it sure ain't Canada. And if someone on a forum from that country said to me, our people and Canadians are just the same, I would be inclined to respond,

:clueless: Are you drinking?

Why do people call countries by their names - but every once in awhile will randomly throw the word "the" in there?

The Ukraine. The Sudan. Why not just say Ukraine or Sudan? That's what I do and it seems to work out.

It makes sense in the case of something like the UK since it is an adjective and a noun and you are basically creating a sentence fragment. The United Kingdom. To leave it out is a bit awkward. I am going to United Kingdom.

But most country names are basically just sounds which I would submit, you can just say.

I am going to The Australia. You don't need it. How about those tensions between The Pakistan and The India? It's a bit idiotic actually.

So why The Ukraine? I don't know.

There was a recent movie called Salmon Fishing in The Yemen. That was a new one on me. The Yemen.
