Apart from the reliability of the Bible as a historical document - which I would put more on par with Gulliver's Travels than accounts of Alexander the Great - it also needs to be understood that Christianity is all recycled stuff from older religion and folklore. Most of the details of Christ's life were laid out long before he supposedly lived. The writers of the Christian bible basically just recycled a bunch of older stories and changed a few of the proper nouns.

There were more folks born of virgins before Christ came along than you could shake a stick at.

That's just one of many examples but the point is, you could say there was a real guy and they just fitted him with all the old stories. I just don't see any reason to believe it. Were all the other guys that had virgin births/followers/persecution/sacrifices-for-our-sins - was every one of them based on someone real too?

The answer is no. Some of them are fictional characters and no one is even pretending otherwise. But some of them are gods. Plenny of gods to go around. You know, whatever.

Bottom line to me: I just see a repeating pattern of recycling stories to fit an agenda. No real people required.

Satan is furiously masturbating to this post RIGHT NOW.

If we're using Wikipedia to determine if historical Jesus existed I just took a gander.

"Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically"

I think I'll be really ok with this discussion if most of us agree that:

-It's extremely likely historical Jesus existed and
-Any human who says there definitely is a God OR there definitely is no God is a

CRAY CRAY human

Did you read the source for that statement? Two preachers and an evangelical christian. All you need to do is search a tiny bit and you will find that it's simply not true. There is plenty of scholarly debate about the existence of a historical Jesus.

There is no debate about what evidence exists, and you would probably be surprised at how shaky it is. That's what I was trying to show you in my first quote that was written by proponents of a historical Jesus.

It's a bit of a trick. Nearly all biblical scholars are highly religious, making them more than a little biased.

It's very doubtful that I'm going to agree with "extremely." Maybe you can convince me, though. Show me extremely convincing evidence.

Every so often I get very strong cravings for Coca-Cola, ice and lime. Coca-Cola is some of the worst shit you can put in your body and I try to avoid it unless I'm drinking a rum and Coke. So I calm my craving with Soda water, lime and ice instead.

If you're trying to live to 100 relax, you won't. Who the fukk wants to live to be 100 anyway?

i would consider them rational and a realist... far cry from fearing something/someone extremely unbelievable ... especially with the non existence of even a grain of proof.. IMO
