People are loving the job Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did hosting the Golden Globes. Didn't see it myself. Hearing stuff like funny and edgy without being disrespectful and they should just host everything from now on. Positive comments.

Seth MacFarlane will be doing the Oscars. I am interested but feeling some trepidation. His humor has a certain specific sensibility. It appeals to me but definitely not everybody. Same could have been said for David Letterman. I didn't see the Letterman Oscars but I did hear the loud THUD coming from the southwest when it happened.

MacFarlane was awful at the nominations thingie. I don't expect him to do much better at the big show. Crass cynicism doesn't work at the Oscars.

Fey and Poehler killed it. They improv-ed a bit and generally played off of the crowd. If MacFarlane tries that he'll only alienate people further, cause he's mean-spirited.

The Grey was a weird one from my view. Not the movie itself - but the reaction. Some people loved it and it has shown up on some critics' top 10 of 2012 lists. It gets credited with deep existential meaning for showing the fundamental wretchedness (pointlessness?) of the human condition.

I just wasn't feeling that at all. To me, it is not much more worthy of that kind of discussion than, say, Halloween. Yes, death is out there. :dunno:

I found it okay - flawed and somewhat cliched but basically okay - I gave it a 6 - but I find the talk of masterpiece over the top.

Emma Stone. She is attractive and all - and I recognize some notable acting talent in the performances I have seen - but there is something not sexy about her for me.

I guess she looks better in her movies than she did there - but still, has she ever even let herself be seen in a swimsuit, nevermind lingerie, nevermind nekkid? What's going on with her?

I find lack of endings to be an attempt at more attention i.e. Soprano's final episode, No country for Old Men, etc. and they feel like a bullshit move. The Gray was still a good watch but even if they just had the wolves smear him into the snow and cut to to .2 seconds of credits whipping up the screen and a big middle finger popped up on the screen with a message that said "Fuck YOU Steve" I would have liked that more than what we just watched.

bad endings will often ruin the whole movie for me. It makes me feel the creator doesn't ultimately have any understanding of the matter his movie tries to address. I don't feel it's attention grabbing but lack of skill. The Sopranos had a lousy ending mostly because they couldn't wrap up any of the significant plot. They didn't have anyone that talented. Alot easier to create mayhem than to resolve it in any meaningful, believable way. And the Sopranos was the last show I enjoyed following regularly.
