The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Pretty much what you'd expect if you've seen the Lord of the Rings series from Peter Jackson. Excellent cinematography and CGI. This is the first part of a three part series. It was slightly over two hours and thirty minutes but I was content to keep watching when it ended due in part to the fact that the ending isn't really an ending. I suppose it was a bit of a disappointment to me since I wasn't expecting that.

I didn't like LOTR for the same reason. I only appreciated it once The Return of The King was released and I was able to rewatch the trilogy over a couple days.

I wonder what's up with this movie Gangster Squad. It's got a couple of top guys in Sean Penn and Ryan Gosling. Emma Stone is in there. People like her. Quite a few respectable names in support. I assume it's got gangsters. People like those.

But the timing of the release makes me think something must have gone seriously wrong.

I don't doubt that he is good looking but as far as his acting, I'm not seeing it. Some critics go pretty gaga - I know he has at least one Oscar nomination - but he has such a tiny range. He's perfectly fine at that little thing he does but come on.

What about the TV show Portlandia. Something has happened that has piqued my curiosity about that.

However I just looked it up online and I can't find it in my listings at the times it is saying on the website. Maybe IFC in the states runs different than IFC in Canada? :dunno:

So two questions. Does anyone who has seen it feel it is worthwhile? And does anyone know how someone in Canada would go about finding it?

I've seen the first 2 episodes. It's funny for about half an episode.

They're trying to stretch a decent 5-minute SNL skit into a whole series. Common.

The premise is pretty funny though. Portland is where young people go to retire.

The whole West Coast feels like that, from the OC up to Vancouver.

Do you have any insight on where you watched it/how you found it? It ain't on my IFC at the times the IFC website is saying.

Which all brings up the other issue which is now the elephant in the room from my perspective.

Awhile back I got around to looking for Boardwalk Empire on thepiratebay. There were several torrents of Season 1 and I picked one and went into the comments section. There were repeated comments about people being contacted by "authorities" (??) when they tried to download the torrent.

Anyway there were others so I checked some. They all had those same kinda comments.

Are we saying that is nothing to be concerned about?
