I watched a documentary called The Act of Killing (2012).

There were some unusual elements to it.

We Are Your Friends: Zac Efron Film Earns 3rd Worst Worldwide Opening for Major Studio Release

The music drama had the third worst opening of all time for a new major studio film released in 2,000 theaters or more, with $1.8 million in earnings, according to Box Office Mojo.

I confess I could think of no reason to ever see it but I figured some people might. :dunno:

Diary of a Teenage Girl

This was a refreshingly delightful experience. Enjoyed the entire ride.

Stellar performances by Kristin Wiig and Alexander Skarsgard.

Completely unheard of Bel Powley raised the roof with her acting skillz. Guaranteed award winner(s)

She's very British and very boneable.

Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014)

Can't help but wonder if people were secretly thinking it could be an Oscar turn for Simon Pegg. Quite a star vehicle for him with a big range required.

I have always liked Simon Pegg (his acting; his writing I just find so-so) but I have long speculated he may have greatness in him.

Anyway, this was not it. He was respectable and there was plenny emoting, but the movie itself was a dog's breakfast of pseudo-philosophical, trying-too-hard lessons-in-life with a healthy side order of cheese.

I am currently watching the movie We Bought a Zoo.

It is a Cameron Crowe film.

He has done some stuff I have enjoyed quite a bit. I couldn't help but notice his most recent Flic - Aloha - got severely panned. I don't expect to ever watch it.

We Bought a Zoo is the one before that. I am two-thirds of the way through it and I'm ready to declare it part of the downward trend.

Not that it is terrible. It is very, very good-natured. It has wonderful intentions.

But it is just so tragically, guilelessly formulaic.

Ever see a movie where there is peril after peril and you are never remotely worried? This is that.

At this point I am ready to set a line. If you want to bet YES, an across-the-board happy ending with many lessons learned:
