Muddy, heard a guy last night on the radio say this guy is a rising star and the next Daniel Day Lewis! Said he wins tonight!

PS Congrats to myself! i like to peek in on them but MrsM doesn't so much!

He's very good and is indeed a rising star. I've seen him ~5 movies now and he has been almost flawless. The only time I remember catching him acting was a few hammy scenes in one of the Star Trek movies.

But he's great. But he ain't winning tonight. The Best Actor race is between Eddie Redmayne and Michael Keaton.

Redmayne has the edge as far as betting odds. It's not huge, and Keaton has beaten him during award season - but Redmayne has won more and is like -333 right now for the Oscar.

Best Picture is a race tho.

As far as outrights at Pinnacle:

Birdman -163
Boyhood +147

That would be fine with me if Birdman won. I'm not gaga over it but Boyhood was my least favorite of the 9 nominees.

As I have said repeatedly, Boyhood has novelty value off the charts - but just not that interesting of a watch.

I would have been completely at peace with Richard Linklater winning Best Director for Boyhood - kinda thought that would be a lock - but he has slipped behind Innaritu for Birdman. Close tho.

Innaritu -136
Linklater +111

Still kinda waiting to see where Neil Patrick Harris' reputation as a great awards show host comes from.

Kinda creeps me out actually.

I like him. During the opening bit, all I could think was that he sounded exactly the Mark Cohen character from RENT. Lo and behold, he played that character in one the early US tours.

Haven't seen any of the movies...my only interest is in seeing Julianne Moore win best actress to draw attention to Alzheimers. I looked at the odds earlier. -4000 no thanks.

Speaking of Alzheimers, that Glen Campbell song about all the shit he wasn't going to notice because he's getting Alzheimers - I'm Not Gonna Miss You - I found that atrocious.

Important enough topic I suppose. Terrible cringe-worthy song.
Agreed....on a number of levels.

Some of the lyrics hit home....like about him not being bothered by the family's crying...AD patients lose all abilty to empathize, but overall I didn't like it at all. I have heard it before, and never understood why it was getting attention unless it was pity praise.
