The worst part is that someone other than NPH was paid to write that joke.

He tried to be edgy when that's never been his schtick.

They should just have Ricky Gervais host the show until he dies.

umm, isnt the idea to get people interested in the show? its impossible to sit through 15 minutes of gervais, much less 3-4 hours

I remember at the Oscars a few years ago - I believe John Stewart was hosting - and he made a little joke about how Jude Law was in every movie that year.

Just being funny. Seems like every year there is someone like that. Works a lot and a bunch of movies get released together. One year John C. Reilly was in damn near every Best Picture nominee.

So that year Jude Law was ubiquitous and Stewart made a little joke. It wasn't an insult in any way. Just an observation.

Later on, Sean Penn comes out for something or other, and first thing he says is, "I'll tell you who Jude Law is. He's one of our best actors."

I guess somewhere in there he was trying to be nice - but it was just weird and awkward and defensive and clueless and humorless.

Guy just has a bad personality.

I really liked the opener in the Oscars. Fun, witty, made me want to watch more.

But it was all downhill from there.

The only way to watch it was DVR'd.

American Sniper

Outstanding, edge of your seat combat scenes broken up by awkward, way-too-obvious attempts to show how the horrors of combat wreak havoc back home for soldiers.

7.2 Trons

it was much better than birdman... some let the guys real life lies and book bullshit get in the way of enjoying the movie...for me, it was okay, but for reasons tron pointed out, it wont stand out as anything but another military/war type of flick

gervais will never host a show of mine :dontthinkso: ... tully, maybe

Some people are apparently unhappy that Joan Rivers was left out of the In Memoriam thing at the Oscars.

I myself am not unhappy as I couldn't name a single movie she was involved with - other than a cringe-inducing biodoc ~5 years ago which showed her to be a toxic, unfunny, pathetic, insecure trollperson. She was a parasite on the movie industry no doubt but actual movie figures like Dennis Farina or Jonathan Winters or Richard Kiel would be much more legitimate snub discussion IMO.

Not that I question any of it.

It was fine, it was fine.

Started a rewatch of Snatch. Two immediate impressions: hey, Tommy is Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire and, hey, Boris the Blade is Prince Kuragin from Downton Abbey.

Had somehow not pieced those together.

Wonderful movie tho. I remembered it very fondly and it is exceeding my memories so far.
