Anyway, having now seen all the Best Picture nominees, I'm not sure what I would vote for. I will give it some further thought. I would place the overwhelming favorite, Boyhood, last.

Not that it's terrible terrible. There is nothing I really hate. Boyhood is like 5.2 out of 10. Something like that.

In a way, American Sniper should be last considering I take it as a self-parody that ridicules its own creation. But it is quite a bit more watchable than Boyhood for me.

I can't decide if I should laugh or cry. Jesus christ.

I don't agree with Michael Moore's characterization at all. Snipers serve a definite, strategic purpose. I don't know if Moore is actually saying snipers shouldn't be used - but if so - that is just stupid. It suggests that many lives need to be sacrificed in the name of this arbitrary point of honor.

If I'm in a war, I'd rather as few of my "brothers" be killed as possible. Snipers are an important tool to that end. And a very talented sniper - damn, do I want one of those watching over my shit.

The dude in American Sniper is very heroic IMO. Given the information he was fed and his level of intellect - his actions were exemplary.

(Not getting into the quality of the information he was fed and all the real life stuff about him that was twisted/omitted in the film.)

Gotta say, I really like Big Eyes (2014). It is easily my favorite Tim Burton movie. That may seem like damning with faint praise but no, while I hover around lukewarm on most of his stuff, he has a few things I am fond of.

I think it is my favorite movie from 2014. Still a few viable candidates to see but as of right now.

It strikes a chord with me on a couple of levels. There is the creative angle - and also the pathological liar angle. Both very very interesting and resonant. The presentation is pleasantly understated. Amy Adams is wonderful. Tim Burton keeps himself out of it for the most part.

It is a rare case where my rating comes in higher than imdb where it is currently 7.0 out of 10. I go 8.

Even more than that tho, the theme of the subordination and intimidation of women in domestic situations has relevance to this day.

Plus the depiction of a pop culture phenomenon taking off. It was interesting to see the process of going viral in the 1960's.

Yeah, I liked that movie.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975) - The wife put it on. I have probably watched it 10 times.

What a thing. One of those things you stumble upon on TV and it immediately grabs you.

Like Shawshank Redemption but with crazies.

Ah, Juicy Fruit.

9.1 Matty Rains out of 10

The movie Enemy with Jake Gyllenhaal is set in my town. I just walked by my TV on mute and there was a clearly recognizable landmark from up the street and then there were some other buildings - I thought it was some kind of local programming - turns out it is that movie. Set at least partly in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Well I'll be jiggered.
