I appreciated it more on second viewing. Completely absorbed start-to-finish. I laughed a lot too. I remember my first viewing that I enjoyed it but almost questioned if it should be classified as a comedy. This time I got it more on that level and was probably disturbing the neighbors at times with my laughter.

John Malkovich was incredible. Might be the best performance I have ever seen him give. Main thing I really didn't like: Brad Pitt. Actually Frances McDormand had some so-so scenes in there too.

Anyway, it's a low 9. Like 8.7 or something, but rounds off to 9 for imdb.

Interesting.

How about a dark suspense thriller with Michael C Hall, the much maligned Dexter Morgan. COMMON HE HAD SOME GOOD YEARS.

Yeah we'll try that.

This was....interesting....a few aspect were quite unrealisitc, but it was a decent flick. A little predicitable though. Idd give it a 7.6
I wouldn't seek it out again on my own...but if I came across it...I might watch it. Maybe.

See I am fairly low on the Brad Pitt fandom and the two movies I would point to as his weakest would probably be Burn After Reading and 12 Monkeys.

Snatch ---> Yes. Notably good.

Oscar nominations for Benjamin Button and Moneyball ---> what the fuck are you talking about?

Tell ya what movie I thought was really good though: Rush.

The newer one. The Ron Howard one about Formula 1 racing. Which brings up a small complaint. Stupid title. Rush. There's already a movie called Rush and it's not like it is just indispensable to this new movie. Other than the general, obvious, clunky fact that race car drivers are kind of in a rush, it has little to do with anything.

Anyway, fokken good movie. In fact I was enjoying it so much I felt sure that it was embellished all to hell. I figured Ron Howard, determined as he often is to present all manner of human spirit rising up and whatnot, had played fast and loose with the truth to Hollywood-ize the whole thing into a ripping (but bogus) yarn. But actually, based on my post-viewing research, it is probably less contrived than your average based-on-a-true-story movie.

Really good movie. I am very stingy with my 9's and I am trying hard to think of a reason it should only be an 8 but it may have to be a 9.

I don't know how it would seem to F1 aficionados. Like all sports movies, there is stuff that doesn't look quite right. But on the other hand they recreated certain scenes at the exact locations where they originally happened which is probably cool to a fan. Like they did one scene at the exact bend of the Nurburgring (sp?) racetrack where it happened ~40 years ago.

Anyway it's all about the characters and story.

Thinking back to last year's Oscars, I would have it above every Best Picture nominee except Her. I wonder why they snubbed it. It's not like the Oscars have a traditional dislike for Ron Howard. Or maybe they're still smarting from backlash over A Beautiful Mind.

Or maybe they just have a different opinion than me.

Anyhoo - thought it was real good.
