Wes Anderson always feels like a wannabe Coen Brother to me. Tries hard but not quite there. Never as good as his ardent fans insist he is.
Matter of taste of course.
As for Grand Budapest Hotel, I have seen a couple rave reviews from regular critics. Mind you, I could say the same about Moonrise Kingdom which was, you know, cute and everything ---> but come on.
Well, I have a lot more respect for the Coen Brothers' body of work, but I wouldn't describe W.A. as a wannabe Coen Brother. Feels like he's doing something pretty different to me.
I loved Moonrise Kingdom, but I definitely have a weakness for that sort of thing.
