Stuff watched and rated in the last while

Howards End (1992) - Merchant-Ivory period piece starring the usual suspects. Reasonably well done but doesn't exactly wow me. I freaking HATE Vanessa Redgrave. 6.4 out of 10

Mean Streets (1973) - I have heard it said that Christopher Nolan could film flies circling over turds for 2 hours and his fanboiz would give it an 8/10 rating at imdb. I believe the same is also true of Scorsese. Mean Streets comes off to me as an amateurish film school effort with some hilariously bad bits and an obnoxious soundtrack - which is rated 7.5 overall. I give it a 4.6

Se7en (1995) - Hard for me to believe this is almost 20 years old. Extremely well-done movie that I think would have to be somewhere in my all-time top 20. I gotta say it though: I don't like Brad Pitt's performance. 9/10

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (1982) - Kind of amusing I guess. 5/10

The Jerk (1979) - Another Steve Martin/Carl Reiner effort. They tried hard but it is aimed at simpler minds. 5/10

The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) - I hate the title but the movie is okay. Thoughtful coming-of-age stuff. 7.1 out of 10

Edison and Leo (2008) - Peculiar little tale told in claymation. 5.9 out of 10

Side Effects (2013) - It was interesting as a theoretical study for an hour and change. Then they got aggressive with the plot twists and it became an eye roller. 4.9 out of 10

The Guilt Trip (2012) - Tolerable if unspectacular comedy with Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogan. 5.3 out of 10

Quartet (2012) - Dustin Hoffman's directorial debut about an old age home for retired musicians. Pretty good cast. Story was just okay. 6 out of 10
