It is not at all rare for me to hear someone questioning why Seth Rogan has a career. It is one of those things certain people like to lob out there and it's been going on for quite awhile. Kevin Costner was a similar target for a long time.

So whenever I see Seth Rogan in something - which is not rare - lord knows, the guy finds work - I try to like him. I want to take a contrarian view to the self-congratulatory cynics and say, "Calm down. Dude is pretty good. Dude has charm and appeal."

But no, I don't see it.

I have never had a serious problem with Kevin Costner though. I recognize that his acting chops are not, shall we say, state-of-the-art, yet I have always found him acceptable. He's in a good 6, 7, 8 movies I like quite a bit, usually as the lead.

Not everything he does is a home run but overall, I am okay with Kevin Costner.

Halfway into the new season of Arrested Development, I am loving it. I was prepared for disappointment but no, not so far, not a bit.

I was concerned with what I had heard about the format of the new season. Apparently there were all kinds of scheduling conflicts with the actors and they couldn't just pull them all together and make a normal season of serial TV. Instead of having everybody in every episode, they decided to have each episode centered around a single character. It all sounded very contorted and forced.

Fucking clever as hell though, the way they are putting it together. Not often I get a chance to say these words but here they are: great comedy writing.

18.5 out of 10 so far.

:megaman:

PROMISED LAND Watched this last night. Basically just a movie about a company trying to buy land/town for it's natural gas. It wasn't the worst movie I have ever seen, but I personally found it pretty bland. Nothing really exciting happens through out the movie, like at all. Sure it has his contradictions, and love bits like all other movies, but pretty monotone through out.
6.7 stevieballs.

costner is in a couple of my fav movies... (tin cup/mr.brooks) and i would be lying if i said i didnt like The Bodyguard

rogan has been in some of the funnier flicks of the last 10yrs. ish... its no coincidence, imo... i like actors that take their normal everyday selves to the screen...

supposed to rain here tomorrow, so i think i might go watch Great Gatsby after the french coverage... seems to be the only thing that looks interesting to me right now.

New Year's Eve - Lots of Stars. Horrible, horrible movie, but not in a Busay or Cage cheeser kind of way - just awful and boring. One bacon crumb that has been shat on by Teela's puppy. :tully:

I've watched this movie late night when nothing else is on. Ever since, I avoid it like the plague. It really is a pretty crappy movie. 0 Stevieballs.

I sometimes find the dollar figures relating to movies interesting. These are the pertinent numbers which imdb shows for Cosmopolis, the David Cronenberg film which I was recently panning and rating 2 out of 10:

Budget: 20.5 million

Opening weekend: $70,339

Gross: $743,636

Whoops.
