unfortunately, Jeselnik is one of the least funny comedians on tv, imo...tries waaay too hard... was better off doing stuff for other talk show guys...the only way for me to watch his show is to watch online and skip the first 15minutes and get to the panel talk...his stand up is fvcking awful... but like i said, the 2nd half of the shows have been mildly humorous, because he has help...

I know a lot of you are wondering how Kevin Kline met Phoebe Cates who went on to become his wife and remains such.

Well she auditioned for a role on The Big Chill and he met her there. It was the role that was eventually won by Meg Tilly. (Probably a good casting choice, I'm thinking.) But love blossomed anyway.

That would have been right around the same time that Fast Times at Ridgemont High was released so it's hard to say if he had already seen the famous hooters scene.

People Like Us (2012) - I hadn't heard much about this. Then I taped it and kept seeing it on my ready-to-go list and I couldn't remember what the hell it was.

But now that I've seen it, I guess I'd have to call it a hidden gem. it worked for me. Nice thoughtful yarn in the category of relationships and family.

I sometimes feel like Terry Gilliam is just making one long movie for his whole career.

The moves appear on the surface to be different. There are different storylines taking place in very different settings and timeframes.

The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen - Brazil - The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - The Brother Grimm

Guess what? It's all one movie.

Also: I didn't really need a new Spiderman movie. That was too soon to try rebooting the franchise.

How long did they wait after the 3 Tobey McGuire flicks to start with the new stuff? Like, a minute and a half?

Was someone really burning for more Spiderman that much?

I was not.

Game Change (2012) - Did not think I would be interested in the Sarah Palin story but I caught a couple minutes of this and got sucked in. This has a very specific focus on her stint as Vice-Presidential running-mate to John McCain. I kind of hated her and found her to be a toxic bitch when that was going on. I doubt I would have watched this had I not known she was going to lose. But she did and I did and it was actually pretty good.

Setting aside American political rhetoric - hopefully - if that is possible - this is a study of the value of celebrity over substance and how far society has degenerated in that regard. The stupid people have so much power. It is scary.

This movie accomplished what I thought was impossible. It made me feel sorry for Sarah Palin. For a little while anyway. I only knew she was a crappy person emblematic of all that is wrong with western democracy. I didn't realize how painfully stupid she is. So clueless. But then she turned into the toxic bitch again so I could return to hating her. Then she lost so it's all good.

I love Julianne Moore but was only lukewarm on her being cast as Palin here. Her acting was good but physically, something wasn't clicking for me. Anyhoo . . .

very interesting Muddy. (ha, that is Maude ) I was always a bit dumbfounded by the Palin phenomenon. She did come across too unbelievably stupid even for the presumably not too bright public. Something never made sense, maybe this movie cleared it up.

also I was just reading about and watching clips from one of my all time favorite movies:

Something missing there. :clueless: Least I'm not seeing anything after the colon.

Anyway, I'm not sure that Game Change really cleared anything up. It showed that there is a huge block of incredibly stupid gullible people in America - who (a) are more dazzled by celebrity than substance and (b) treat elections like they are football games which are things to be won/lost and have no particular effect on anything that happens in between.

None of that is news but what Game Change did was show the depth things have sunk with the stupidity/gullibility, along with the extreme cynicism of the smarter people exploiting that fact.

it's awful. It's truly awful. And scary. You could just laugh at American politics except there is so much potential danger.

Only a slight stretch to classify that movie as a horror.

Forbidden Planet (1956) - I'll admit I probably wouldn't have watched this except that it is mentioned in the Rocky Horror theme song.

Anne Francis stars in
Forbidden Planet

Well first let me say this: if ever there was a girl in the history of the world who could be described as a living doll, it's Anne Francis in Forbidden Planet.

I kinda expected this movie to be comically bad but it was actually a pretty decent sci-fi considering the timeframe. There was one scene with a creature being revealed that was apparently done cel-by-cel by Disney animators and, unlike a lot of sci-fi creatures of the era, it is quite a beautiful work of art.

The movie itself could reasonably be called an unofficial pilot for Star Trek, there are so many similarities. A young Frank Drebin was the swaggering captain, precursor to Kirk.

Kinda fun. Enjoyed it. Let's not get carried away though.

Lay The Favorite with Bruce Willis is a film about an attractive woman who moves from Florida to Las Vegas and begins working for a professional sports bettor.

It's so bad that, 32 minutes in, I'm going to keep watching to see if it can possibly get any worse.

Laura Prepon (red head from That 70's Show) and Vince Vaughn are in it as well.
