Argo (2012) - finally an enjoyable experience among the Best Picture nominees. It had been awhile since I viewed one where I was not constantly checking how much time is left.

I really enjoyed this. It got a bit silly with the manipulative contriving of tension around the climactic scene but other than that, it restored my faith in god above.

(Gotta say, I really like Alan Arkin but why anyone would think that was a nomination worthy performance is beyond me. Perfectly competent but completely unremarkable IMO. But as I recall saying recently, slow year for acting I guess. Or maybe the academy is just a bunch of dipshits. Entirely possible. Anyway, erring on the side of Alan Arkin is not as bad as many things.)

I browsed some discussion post-viewing as I often do. Wading through vast sewers of idiots trying to fit their current airhead ideologies to the situation in so many contorted ways - and compensating for the inevitable hyperbolizing, I came to believe a few points were genuine historical inaccuracies. Nothing I cared about much, as it turns out.

I end up with a rating of 7.8 out of 10.

The Sessions (2012) - Probably has my vote for Best Movie of 2012 at this point. (Well, I'm still sorting out my very complicated feelings about Les Miz). But this one is not nominated for the Oscar. Not sure why. Too short at 95 minutes maybe.

As long as you can get past Frank from Shameless being a priest and all-around great guy, it's touching, funny, thoughtful, well paced - very well acted. It's profound.

It did produce one Oscar nomination - for Helen Hunt, Supporting Actress. She was very good - although not as good as John Hawkes IMO who is playing a 38 year severely disabled man seeking to explore his sexuality for the first time.

8.4 out of 10

I have no idea if The Sessions would be your cup of tea or not. Low budget (under a million bucks apparently) indie.

If you consider it a priority to see Helen Hunt nekkid, then definitely get in there. Otherwise, not sure.

It's rated 7.4 at imdb which is fairly good but not as good as I am saying.

We watched Limitless and The Fighter this weekend.

Limitless is a great watch, it moves quick and keeps you wanting more. 8 Camipatooties.

The Fighter I didn't care for that much, his family was just annoying and I found them distastful. The fights were cool and well done. Bale crushed it as the drunk Brother. It's probably still from how awful Ted was but I have just not been digging Wahlberg of late.

I guess gay action is the trendy thing to write about in Hollywood. Even though Shameless has some great moments I'm really sick of seeing all that stuff, definitely no problem with homosexuals I just don't want to see dudes making out. Now on Californication the new twist is Runkle in a potentially gay situation. Props to them on former Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach being hysterical. That was well done and much to my surprise he is a good actor. Looks like on House of Lies next week we have them tangling with Matt Damon, should be a good watch.

Watched Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding last night! Jane Fonda is still sexy!

Film did give the Woodstock area being a happy-go-lucky place, that is the week or so of movie setting during the a summer month! No outdoor parties happening right now though!

7.5 bananas

Lincoln - I'm fascinated by anything Civil War-related, and this did not disappoint, although it was tedious at times. I liked the detail in which they went to show the different political strategies used. Must've been quite the era to live in.

D. Day-Lewis disappears in his character - I haven't seen the other Oscar nominees for best actor outside of Bradley Cooper (who obviously has no shot), but I'd blindly bet all my money that he's gonna get the award.

Outstanding acting and cinematography.

Coulda used more fighting. Opening scene was properly gory.

8.2 Matty Rains

The Fighter....another fighter movie. Not my cup of tea. I enjoyed the fight scenes, but could have done with out the family drama. Also, to be perfectly frank with you, I am just not that big of a fan of Wahlberg as an actor anymore. Based on a true story, or at least people, so I give it one Stevieball just for that, all together I'd give it about 6stevieballs.

Limitless was cool. I really liked that one. I like how all ofa sudden he became a genius and could spew out mass amounts of knowledge. I would love to watch this again, especially because someone wouldn't stop talking during the movie. All in all for me, despite the distractions and my looming hang over, 9 stevieballs.

This movie was not for the older crowd for sure.

Yeah, the only flick of his I really enjoyed was Inglorious Basterds.

Pulp Fiction was ok, Kill Bill was awful. Django is in between those two.

What the fukk were Aussies doing in Mississippi in the slave era?
Why the big deal about wanting to buy a German speaking woman slave? just sell her.
