It was not one of his better performances. Not really funny at all tbh.

the thing is his show used to be very good and funny. new rules etc..

but it seems that for the last year he's been harping on the same uninteresting shit. Republicans, elections, religious folly.
Oh and for a while there every episode he would bring on some token black Republican to argue :dunno:

I certainly want to see political humor but there's more to politics than making fun of Republicans. Remember when they had a guy sitting in a plastic(?) cage while Maher and Oberman yelled at him. He was supposed to signify the ignorant Republican bubble  awful.

I don't think Maher is particularly funny. Is he really going for funny?

i think he made an attempt, and that got turned into a political show that bashes the republicans...every once in a while he'll throw out a witty one liner. He is very combative if you ask me.

Lets face, his intention is not to make people laugh, or to inform the public of anything. He just likes to hear himself talk. Bout it.

Les Miserables - Admittedly, I don't generally appreciate this genre - especially when transitioning from stage to film. This was no exception. There's only so much singing from Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman that I can handle. The performance by Anne Hathaway was exceptional and that's really the only reason to watch this adaptation. I lost interest about 45 minutes into it. Probably won't try to get through the remaining two hours. 2 F0cks.

What's with Cap Pickerd? I think he's coming on to me.

No but seriously man

Amour (2012) - In keeping with the ongoing theme of this year's Best Picture nominees, this is a lengthy procedural which I can't imagine I would ever watch again.

There is a real sweetness at the core of this. Nice couple in their 80's who still seem to care for each other. *SPOILERS* but then health problems set in for one of them and it becomes half-movie, half-Learning-Channel-special about what we can expect with a geriatric in declining health.

The movie part was reasonably well done, albeit a heartbreaking (depressing?) reality check of what awaits a lot of peeps. Getting old sucks. The extended documentary part was excessive and tedious IMO.

And as I say, the movie as a whole does not do well in the will-I-want-to-watch-it-again test.

6 out of 10.

Also, on further reflection, I have lowered my rating of Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012) from 7 to 6. In actuality that is a move from 6.6 to 6.3 but that's how it rounds off.

As uninspiring a group of Best Picture nominees as we had last year, it is looking like the golden age compared to this year's so far.

Les Miserable still in the lead for my vote with 3 candidates to be viewed.

I dont understand the watching it again evaluation. I feel that should be worth the least amount of points. Movies are not record albums.

To me the biggest appeal of good movie is a meaningful story that needs to be told. Once you told it :dunno: I realize it has become popular for people to own and re-watch these things but I dont quite get it. Seems dopey

I have been trying to get through my immense queue on netflix.I watched some more modern noir films last night, this one is excellent, LA Confidential.Big fan of Ellroys books, they did the novel justice here. Good cinematography, nice retro southern california architecture and look to the film. black dahlia next but will probably watch some 50s noir first

Jackman has a lot of experience with these musicals and actually can sing very well IMO
