does it happen all the time? I don't expect it to happen all the time and that would be drivers fault big time.

Well, I don't know what the percentages are like, but I've sure read a lot of stories of people dying while changing tires on the shoulder, and I've seen quite a few of those cop videos where someone smashes into a traffic stop on the shoulder. And, that time I left my broken down Buick on the shoulder of I-70 for a couple days, it got smashed.

I'm going to stick with my assessment.

I always bristle when I hear comments that someone didn't show remorse. Like in this case, if she had actually said, "fuck those dead people - they're not as important as ducks," - okay, that would be relevant. But I don't get the feeling that's the case. I get the feeling it's just a personal judgment of her body language compared to, say, Sally Field in Steel Magnolias.

Some of us go through life somewhat poker faced and do not put on a big show about things. It is not relevant in judging or sentencing.

I'm not saying her sentence is too harsh here - it seems reasonable to me. I'm just ranting about that specific general thing that always bugs me.

On the highway? Common man. This guy came to a gradual, controlled stop and insta-caused a massive plow:

And as MrX mentioned, there are dozens of these vids showing cop cars getting plowed into.

A car breaking down is one thing. A voluntary stop to save some duckies? Hand over your license you fokkin' moron.

I'll give you credit just because of your Buick, but thats all:guitar:

Mudcat, thats the question, does she believe she did the right thing or not? She could say yeah I was stupid I understand, I'm sorry, doesnt mean she has to cry about it.

Matty, I understand this happens but if moose runs out in the middle of road I'm slamming my breaks, if you hit me thats your fault. If its a straight road and a car is just sitting you shouldn't be hitting. I understand if you're coming out of a turn.
I do a lot of highway driving and when the road turns I try to slow down or make sure I have no one next to me so I can change lanes if something's unexpectedly in the road.
I admit it though, at night going 75, you're just hoping there's nothing unusual, you don't see far enough to be able to stop most places. :dunno:

If I were to get arrested I would demand that I only serve the jail time when I felt like it.

"you never feel like serving your jailtime anymore"
"I know it's not you it's me, I've just been in a weird mood lately"
"whatever" <judge stomps off with pouty face>

BTW the penalty for driving without a license in QC is a $350 ticket and a ding on your driving record for 2 years.

That girl can basically chance it and risk getting a handful of meaningless $350 tickets over the next 8 years. She doesn't have to renew her license @ $100 a year either.

It's probably not that simple, but she could be saving a decent amount of money.

That's ridiculous, I mean I get it's kind of a privilege and all, but dude. Every few years here, and at no cost.

But then, free healthcare, cheap university ($3-$5k a year on average) and $7/day daycare (that's Quebec, not Ontario - I pay $53 per half-day for daycare).

Whatever. It all works out the same after the crooks pillage us both.

She says she doesn't have much to do, and she lacks motivation. :wah:

She seems to be slowly giving up on her ambition to get a real job (i.e. a non-postdoctoral fellowship)

And my goal was to marry rich so I could slack off all day and write The Great North American Novel. Looks like Gamelive will have to do.
