Damn. Just when I think that MF has Jesus guilted me into not only a refugee position, but reverting to the party wth whom I have not been aligned since 1987, Nina brings it. Then Mr. X whips out what is known as the "conversation stopper" verse.

Good stuff. Carry on.

It means that you can use religion as a vetting process. Less than 10% of the population of Syria is Christian. And is was used to refute the statement that it goes against our laws to vet for that purpose. It does not. According to the law, we are supposed to.

As for your blanket statement in regards to what would Jesus do? He would want us to help them. Notice I was offering help in the way of protection, housing, clothing, food, medical supplies and other humanitarian aid without uprooting them. You already know that there are terrorist minded people mixed in with them. They announced they would do so and have done so. There isn't anything wrong with protecting your own. You may be willing to gamble with your family's safety but you have no right to demand the same of mine.

I think you might be reading that wrong. That is only part of the legal definition of a refugee - meaning that people persecuted for their religion may seek refuge in the United States.

The refugees are already uprooted, Nina.

We've only accepted refugees for our entire existence. You've effectively been scared. ISIS has won. They control you - so much so that you have abandoned any sense of Christian values and will not help the helpless. You're scared for your family's safety, but in the next breath, God works in mysterious ways, etc. Are you scared to go to Heaven?

You're either misunderstanding my original point, or misunderstanding the code that you posted.

Of course, if we're granting refugee status to Christians who are being persecuted for being Christian, then those refugees are going to have to be vetted as Christian. I really shouldn't have to be typing this.

And if you're being persecuted for being Jewish, you'd going be Jewish.

That has nothing to do with favoring a particular religion, system-wide. If you favor granting refugee status to persecuted Christians over doing so for persecuted Muslims, then the state is favoring a particular religion. That is what would go against our foundation regarding separation of church and state.

I notice you are ignoring the fact that a small percentage actually come from Syria and aren't the 3 years olds and widows as we were told. Why won't countries over there accept them in? Does that not raise a red flag to you?

A small percentage? I think they're the majority by all accounts, but you do realize that more than Syria is in a failed state in the Middle East right now. Right?

seems like a lot of the migrants are young, middle class people. I don't care if they bring them here or whatever, it's not like it's gonna raise the average dicheadedness of the country :dunno:
But by far the best solution is to keep people in a safe situation at home. Stop foking destroying countries and creating extremist groups (intentionally or otherwise) to help in your thirst for world domination.
Where's that debate?

Stop trying to play the religion card. It doesn't suit you.

And no, the US has not always accepted refugees. In 1882, there was the Chinese Exclusion Act. 1917, there was a literacy test passed. In 1924 a quota system was put in the place, allowing only 2% of a nationality to enter. And in 1939, Cuba and the US turned away Jewish refugees who were considered to be "stateless" who sailed over on the St. Louis.

And no, they don't control me. But you also don't invite a thief into your home. It's called using common sense.

I agree, our Middle East policy has sucked for 30 years.

I'll stop playing the religion card as soon as hypocritical religions are gone.

Yes, there were instances in our history where bigotry prevailed over our normal, fair course of action. That doesn't make it right.

You don't actually know if even ONE of the refugees that would come here has ties to any terrorist organization. Just fears. Bigotry wins again.
