can you explain the gray ink/black ink Archie?

I wasn't a big Sandberg fan, cause when it comes to baseball I like big black guys :dunno:

But I saw a lot of Sandberg's games. But you aint gonna keep him out of hof, he's a 2nd baseman. Not position known for big #s

Sandberg is the best 2nd baseman of the 80's and 90's and it's not close

And usually if you're the best player for 16 years at your position you get into the hall of fame

What did he have 9-10 gold gloves? How many all-star games? Must have been a ton.

Look at 1990 for Christsake. Pretty fantastic. Oh and fuck Joe Morgan.

I would wager there is a strong tongue-in-cheek element to what Tron posted up there. He is highlighting the absurdity of a "debating" style often shown by certain internet types, I believe.

I mean, his point is clear and correct - but the delivery style, I believe, is for effect (and gave me a pretty good chuckle).

From Baseball Reference -

The black ink is leading the league in catagories. Gray ink is finishing top-10 in the categories

Good. I started out saying something like, I believe he is making a parody of the typical angry internet simpleton in a constant state of over-compensating for every sort of shortcoming and insecurity - but then I thought, wait, what if he's not? Maybe he's truly exasperated and that is just the rant that came up organically at that moment?

Then I would be calling you some stuff.

I was pretty sure I understood what I was seeing but I went with a more careful wording just in case.

But anyway ---> good.

which is down from a big drop in attendance 2012-2013 .... attendance went up for what, like 5-6 yrs or so before 2012...a lot due to new venues/upgraded venues who gave away tickets/discounted the fuck out of tickets/added more family days etc ... all in an attempt to bring in more people (people who wouldnt buy a reg $ ticket to begin with)... they wouldnt have sniffed an upswing in attendance without more deals, no? ... and tv ratings have been dropping forever...years and years (actually like 50% since the 90s), but i notice you just buried your head there and gave in... that one was a no brainer and im not even sure why you bothered arguing it

so attendance is down, again, this year and tv ratings are at a miserable low ... anything else? its fun debating with you

again, the first post was made for fun, but is 100% fact... the mlb will always be a money maker for most cities... but now, even all the free tix/discount tix etc. appear to be losing their luster

I thought the attendance at Wrigley Friday was a disappointment yesterday. One of the nicest days of the year, popular team in town, and Kershaw pitching. I paid $50 for my ticket, 2nd row field boxes, the front row of 10 were never used. Out of the 32K announced, there had to be 8-10K no-shows. Cub fans quit buying the tickets 3-4 years ago when mgmt catered to the high dollar customer instead. I would bet 25% of their season tickets are ticket brokers. I can't believe attendance is down only 100/game. The no-shows everywhere are alarming.

Good. They should disband the team. It's time.

Isn't number-fudging a widespread thing in baseball attendance numbers? They give away so many tickets through different channels.

There are way too many games.

There is no fudging of numbers. The road team gets roughly 30% of the gross of tickets sold, not how many show up. It's also in the teams best interest to have the seats full because of the lost concessions.

wait, I never never knew that about the road team getting 30%

i've been checking the Pirates attendance very closely the last few weeks, as they are very very close to setting an all time attendance record that was set in 2001 when PNC (the best ballpark in America opened)

The Pirates have great road attendance numbers this year for some reason too.

so hopefully the stupid fucking tight wad owners will actually spend a couple nickels this off season

True. I wonder what the future holds. NFL especially ---> it's a wonder to me anyone goes to sit in the seats at an NFL game.

And truly, if the day came where there was not a single butt watching live, the NFL would still be selling franchises like the Bills for 1.4 billion dollars - or however that corrects for future inflation.

Baseball is a bit different but still, not the gate-driven league like say the CFL.

Butts watching live - now there's a concept.
