I love Matty. Not in a gay way but it's close.
I''m just glad we have a thread with many responses that doesn't center around IAG's cat.
But to me the biggest problem with advertising is that it is a waste of energy and resources with negative consequences to culture and environment. This industry doesn't create anything, it is mostly propaganda machine designed to instill an artificial need.
Why don't you live in a coop? Disconnect from the Internet, don't buy the newspaper and don't get a TV. Everyone takes turns cooking meals, harvesting the garden and shit.
Voil, Renotopia. No advertising and only the most basic of needs are fulfilled. No fluff.
There's no reason why small communities in cooperation with other communities should have any less good things than a large state. Why do you feel the need to turn it into some hippie thing?
That's great except some communities care more than others and work harder to have/keep nicer things. Now what?
Example - Detroit and its suburbs.
Because it is!
How many examples of epically-failed communisms do you need?
So fine, if you're community works harder and has more things good for you. Whats the problem with that.
You got two out of three. This thread needs 3 things

BTW reno you haven't answered the question - why wouldn't you join a (non-hippie) coop?
Reno - I'm still waiting for the list of the needs to the public that we are not marketing to.
