Not everyone gets the same medical care in Canada. First thing the hospitals do here when you get admitted is ask for an imprint of your credit card in case you require anything that's not covered by the public system.

My private insurance got us bumped up to a private room with free meals for 2 days after baby was born, in a secured unit with a security tag around baby's ankle in case some bum wanted to steal him away.

Ballin'.

thats not the worst thing in the world. Basic things are free, maybe have to pay for some extras

I'm guessing you're not the one making policy decisions or buying politicians. You're a simple tool that works some job, enjoys beer and football and plays with numerology:dunno:
You are the definition of cattle. You are unable to think critically, instead make knee jerk reactions and strawman arguments.

And who are you? At least I contribute to my community instead of bitch about the "well to do"

Bad example as its widely recognised that the US healthcare system is the global example of how not to do things...

Still, someone has to lead the way and without mistakes there is no progress...

Now, to get those pharmaceutical lobby groups away from political decision making...

As like any lobby group, follow the money. I am totally against corporate donations and powerful lobby groups. They are self-serving and the voters are the big losers.

Like what? X-Rays, Medication?

Or do you mean things like private cable tv in your hospital room?

The way you explained it makes it seem like there are perks in the healthcare system if you have money vs those that dont - thats just not true. If a poor pregnant woman was admitted the same day as your girl to Mount Sinai she would have received the same quality of care as you guys did.

She may not have had her own room and cable tv but she wouldn't have been treated differently by hospital staff.

In the delivery room, yes, but not in the "recovery" area. Public system has women sent to the ward, with one nurse per 4 women. We had a dedicated nurse around the clock.

Canada totally has a two-tiered system for those who want to pay for better and/or quicker care. Money or status allows people to jump the queue for in-demand procedures. We've seen it first-hand when Mommy Rain got pancreatic cancer (Mommy Rain has no money but she worked for the org. that supervises doctors in Quebec.)

Good thread all.

That will not work in renoland. Looking back at the start of the thread, I can't believe Reno watches commercials for the info. We watch them to be amused.

I don't believe anyone should have a problem with that. Paying more for a 3 star hotel to recover from instead of the standard 1 star.

The doctors and the hospital treat everyone the same way when it comes to medical procedures, you can't get "better" service from a doctor by paying more.

bottom line:

"everyone has equal access to health care in Canada, no matter their resources"
