And Jose Cruz who was not only a significant Astro for a long time, but the father of former Jay Jose Cruz Jr.

I remember we all thought Jose Cruz Jr. was going to be a superstar at first. Ken Griffey Jr. was a superstar and they were both Jr. Seemed like it had to happen.

But didn't quite.

J.R. Richard though. Man, that was a thing.

Has to be noted: the Astros still host the Rangers for a series - and they (Astros) have one of the more pronounced home/away discrepancies. i.e. - much better at home. So maybe. We'll see what kinda balls they got.

But the trends don't look good. They gotta think about the Twins now as much as anything.

Stroman looks insanely good. Like, too-good-to-be-true good.

Like, what's the catch?

It's Price-Stroman from here on out if this is real.

They finally dinked and dunked him for a run on some bloopers and squibbers. Kid could get unhinged over the bad luck and a few runners on base - but just shrugs it off and blows them away with crazy nasty stuff.

He's a bulldog.

Unbelievable, this Stroman situation. It's like - BOOM! - here guys, have an extra ace for the stretch run and post-season.

Is a second ace something you might be interested in?

The stuff I saw last night was incredible.

Yes, I am well aware there is still lots of room for things to go wrong with that.

Jays now up on the Yankees by 4.5 and trail the Royal by 1.

A lot of people around here are now counting various magic numbers to clinch various things.

I am not.

Marcus Stroman could be called an ace except for the fact of his 4.39 FIP and his 0.1 WAR.

:mrquincy:

But quite a nice little storyline is developing there with those Canada players.

If we can just make sure the Astros get in the playoffs this could be a really fun playoff season.

It wasn't just like Stroman was picking up where he left off last year - when he was the consensus #1 guy in the rotation - but it was like he had continued to develop for the year. The screwball action on the 2-seam fastball was a thing to behold.

Hope it continues.

Unusual start time today for some reason. 4 o'clock EST.

He is back with the team. September call-up.

He has been up and down many times for a couple (3?) years but, with the recent strengthening of the middle infield, even without Tulowitzki, he does not seem likely to be called on much. Pinch run maybe. He's not super fast but I guess he's faster than the catchers or whatever.

Wonderful dugout guy, as I understand it. Kind of a team mascot when there is nothing to cheer for. Very cute when you're 6 games below .500 but at this point, just kinda keep outta the way.
