I have 110,000 air miles with Air Canada and 70,000 with United. I was checking out flights through Air Canada (Aeroplan) for October and noticed that there are very limited options. It got me thinking. Is it better to phone them and book through the phone as they may have more flight options than online. The options they have now are basically 2 flights and takes 16 hours to get there which is basically a red eye flight out of NS and a long lay over in Toronto. Pretty shitty options. I'd be better off just paying cash and get there in 8 hours and no red eye. Is this always the case with most airlines or are there any tricks I can use to book the flights I want?

There is usually a fee for phone reservations, but it's worth it to call and speak to someone. Then you can book online for free.

WTF Barclays. I had a prior Frontier mileage acct but never used it..I had 1700 miles...I would get emails stating that. When I signed up for Barclays Frontier card I did not have the acct number so I called this week to have them merge (which they said they could do) Now not only do I have the 40,000 miles I had in the new acct...My 1700 miles are gone and I only have 354 in there...so they gave me the earned miles, not the bonus, and took away my original ones..wth.

I am on phone with Frontier, but 25 minute hold time. fok.

IAG, how close is your nearest Walmart? You can manufacture spend a few thousand there to earn miles quick.
There are about 5 in town but I refuse to shop there. The only thing I will buy there is Pogo's insulin because it is DRASTICALLY cheaper than anywhere else..like $50 difference.

I go to Target, but due to time constraints, buy almost everything I need at grocery store...tp, detergent, etc...is that what you mean by manufacture..just spending on everyday stuff?

Some of these cards give you 5000 more miles/points just for adding an authorized user. I think I will add my mom, have the card sent here then purchase something on line.

. Got my Groupon GoPicnic in the mail today. For someone who has had wreckless disregard of money all her life, this is really a rush to be getting all this free/discounted stuff.

I also did 2 reviews on Angie's List this week for a $20 Starbucks card,

No.

You can buy a bunch of $500 gift cards. And then turn them into cash to pay off the CC's via money orders etc.

OR you can open up a Blue Bird account and deposit the gift cards into the BB checking account via the kiosks that they only have at Walmart.

OR you can get a Target AMEX and then load and withdrawal cash from an atm to pay of the CC's.

Not too hard to MS 10k a month on CC's then liquidate the cash to pay them off.

Yeah I had thought of the gc route... for some reason I thought the banks had a way of knowing what was a gift card purchase and those were exempt...maybe I'm thinking of something else..they are making their %3 or whatever off the store, so I guess they wouldn't care what was purchased.

I'm going to add my mom as an authorized user ..5000 points on first use. I'll have card sent here, buy something online on that card and cut it up.

If you don't have it, best app ever is Award Wallet. It tracks and updates all your rewards...points, miles, walgreens. I entered mine in today and am quite impressed with it.

My Chase Mileage Plus doesn't link for some reason, but Amex, Citibank,, Chase Sapphire, and Barclay's Frontier and US Airways (I said SW above but it was actually US Airways) all do. Plus my Walgreens and I think Amazon....handy!

The US Airways one is sweet. You get like $1000 worth of stuff after paying the annual fee and just one purchase. I think the annual fee is $69 or so.

One thing I need to find out is if miles awarded can be used after the card is cancelled? ...say if I don't use the tickets by next summer and they have not expired, do I have to keep the card and pay another annual fee ? With the Frontier one, they actually are banked at Frontier, so I think those are ok...they can't take them back... but I don't know about Sapphire's program. Maybe I should have waited til I actually have the ability to go somewhere before doing all this.

Currently working on Citibank Thank you that gives you $200 cash after spending putting $1500 on it in 3 months...no annual fee. That's a good one.

Look what you did to me Blitty. As long as I continue to pay off each month, it's definitely +ev though.
