Doesn't applying for a lot of cards mess with your credit rating? I think it does in Canada.
It can, but 2 in few years won't hurt. My credit score is good, and I'm not looking at financing anything any time soon anyway. I wouldn't even be applying for cards if I didn't get tempted by the idea of all the free travel.

Sapphire is $3000 in 3 months. I spent about $1000 in Rio. Just bought our airfare for wedding in STL. My gf is paying me cash, so that worked out well.

If all else fails buy stuff and resell on ebay or something.. :dunno:

Also you get double points for travel and dining.
I think I would be better off buying visa gift cards to use over time than ebay cuz they charge %15 of final sale price or something. I can probably fairly close with groceries/gas/cell phone, but I don't want to do all this and lose out for a couple hundred bucks.

Years ago it seems like I had a way to do this thru Netteller or something where it was easy to deposit in a book and get credit then cash out, but whatever that was went away when it became impossible to use my visa for online books.

I did and am looking for more input. Maybe some of the financial/bank/credit reporting gurus on here would know.
I worked in legal credit/collections for 20 years. There are various factors involved, but say if you were shopping for a car, or mortgage, you are not going to be penalized for having several hard inquiries from the same industry in a short span. I think it is understood and expected that people comparison shop. Now if you are maxed out on your cards and appear to be trying to get a bunch store and bank cards consistently, it will hurt you.

Pucky...you looking for a card or just curious? You travel quite a bit. I would assume you have a mileage card?

I do travel a wee bit and was really curious. I have a CC that I get points, but never had a card that offered free flights etc.

Thank you for you contribution to this thread. I appreciate your assistance.

They are not offering "free flights" per se Pucky, but it is the equivalent. 40,000 points on(card thru Barclay's) is the equivalent of two domestic ticketrs on Frontier. The sapphire one I think read translated to 500 in travel...you can use for hotel or other things I'm sure but mostly I was looking at airfare. My niece is getting married in late July and may have to do a quick up and back trip.

Like I said I collected Amex points and got about $200 worth of credit last time I cashed in. You have to make sure you are covering the annual fee, but most of these offers waive the annual fee for the first year. I will have to decide if it is worth it to continue after that. There are many sites out there that rank cards in terms of best miles card, best cash back card etc. And of course you can't carry a balance to make it worth it.

I'm not worried about it while I'm here, but the moment I start to get carried away with the cards, they are getting cut up...don't see that happening though...being here has really shown me how unimportant so many things are that I used to find important.

For my Peru trip, I just bought that airfare on Priceline with te Barclays card and then they took $500 of my balance. Very easy.

The United Plus one sucks because you have to book it through their site, so very limited in comparison.

I just used those miles for 2 nights hotel in Cusco next month.

Got the 2 cards in the mail today. I need a plan. I guess I'll work on the $500 requirement one first. My homeowners insurance payment should almost take care of that one. The $3500 one is going to be tougher...unless I need shoulder surgery.. ha .then I'm sure my deductible will take care of that.

I better read the fine print on these things....Anything that you can think of that is excluded Blitty besides cash advances and balances transfers?

I recommend booking hotels on it for people and get hotel points.

I know it sounds crazy, but it can be done.

I'm not sure what you mean.

I only have 3 months in which to put x amount of money on each card to get the bonus miles. After that I'm not really concerned about it... I don't know anyone who plans on traveling and staying in a hotel in the next few months and if they do, they have their own rewards cards. Is there some advantage to booking hotels over another kind of purchase?
