I wrote some dudes blog about getting a bunch of these and flying around the world for $200.

I applied for 3 the other day and they all just showed up.

-Barclays

-Chase United World Traveler

-Alaskan Airlines

All I know is that I have to purchase $1000 on each of them within 3 months to get the miles.

Anyone have any success with this?

Recommendations on which ones are best?

Did I just fuck my credit with all those inquiries?

I have no idea what I'm doing.

3 inquiries to the same type of creditor within a short time would not hurt you as much as you think...but no more!

I use the Chase United for air travel, and American Express points plan. What do you mean you have to spend $1000 w/in 3 months to get the miles? I assume this is a promo...at the airport United is always giving 15,000 or 25k miles if you sign up and approved for certain cards...didn't know of any restrictions.

what is the promo? I would have to base my decision on that information.

I have used the chase (United card) often. Use it instead of your debit card, pay off your card each month, collect points (miles) and redeem for tickets. Not complicated. There are blackout dates (or used to be) and I believe you have to book 2 weeks in advance usually.

Blitty my best advice at this point, is if and when you use any credit card, always keep the balance below 50% of the spending limit, if not 30%, I would advise that in the future you find out if they report to all three credit bureau. You don't have to, but it's good to know. Don't make late payments as that can negatively affect your score. I would be careful with all the credit card inquiries pending what your current score is. I am sure Bacon will have more, if not better advise as we deal with this kind of stuff often in our industry.

Charge X amount in the first 3 billing cycles to activate teh bonus points.

There used to be a US government scam with points. You could buy $3000 worth of dollar coins on the US Mint website (free shipping). Get the coins and promptly walk them to the bank and deposit them. Use the cleared cash deposit to pay off your credit balance of 3k and get 3k points (worth about $30 on most points programs).

Works anywhere you can get 100% cash value for an item purchased. Like if you knew a retail shop that would give you CASH return no questions asked...

I believe I know a retail store like that.

I will probably 'rent' a few grand in skiing/winter accessories from them in the next few weeks.

I will be responsible with paying off the balance, so that's not an issue.

I believe the promo is to receive 25-30k miles.

Yeah I know all about credit bureaus/reporting etc also if questions regarding that....but regarding the programs/cards...so they all 3 have the same sort of deal? sounds like no brainer...25-30k miles should equal one domestic rt ticket. use your cards pay off the balance..go on some trips. Easy. Do any of them have annual fees? That's the only thing that may come into play, but you can get your trip and cancel one or all afterwards if you don't find they suit you.

I was shopping on amazon a few weeks back and they offered me $70 or something in credit to open an account with them.. Hell yeah...I opened it up and used it right then ...bought $70 worth of stuff which promptly came, and will probably never use the card. No annual fee... win/win.

Seems like there was one that was popular with Best Buy. If you google, I have seen websites devoted to the best way to use your miles/points, "scams" if you will, and how to best utilize the different programs.

"Blitty my best advice at this point, is if and when you use any credit card, always keep the balance below 50% of the spending limit, if not 30%" this.

I help so many people boost their credit and these quacks out there lead them in the wrong direction having them close accounts (BAD), payoff collections (no point score wise unless federal debt then yes it's urgent).

Yes it depends how many on your account good too. You're that guy with a sky high score and 8 good standing cards sure close whatever. You're that guy with 2 accounts and a borderline score close one and good luck to you.

The 50% - 30% is HUGH, pay on time and you're good.

Sounds like you have nothing to worry about :blittster:
