I wouldn't answer the phone if some random guy that I met at a bar called me just after we first met. I'd much prefer a text. If I only gave him my number because I was drunk or have changed my mind for whatever reason since then, I can just not reply without dealing with the awkwardness of a phone call. If I genuinely missed the call because I was busy, I'm not placed in the position of having to call him back.

And really, I would think a text works in the guy's favour as well. He's not setting himself up for hearing that she's not interested - if she doesn't reply, the rejection will be somewhat softer. And if she doesn't answer, he's not left debating whether he should call her back in a few days and risk making himself look over eager.
 
If you're both hitting it off then you don't have to limit it to 2 minutes but you really want to be the one who ends the conversation (in a nice way of course). Herman, you're an action guy now. You have games to cap, a workout to do and your getting haircut in an hour. Make plans with her, listen to her day for a while and then get off the phone.

I honestly wouldn't answer even if I was attracted to him. I'd rather us exchange a few texts first - that way I can not only gauge how witty and literate he is with words (very important to me) but I'm not risking any awkwardness. I hate that feeling. And there's a fairly good chance it would happen if you're on the phone with someone you barely know. Text a bit first - that way you can exchange a few details about yourself and set up the basis for a phone conversation instead of entering it blindly. At least for me that's much more preferable.

I suppose I am just different than most women and I haven't been involved in the dating world during this whole texting madness. But if I were single and met a guy and really hit it off with him, I would gladly speak with him on the phone. I hate texting.
