Atoms come in all different sizes, depending on the element. More electron shells, bigger atomic radius. A "particle" of, say, iron is exactly one atom of iron by definition. A particle of a compound, like water, consists of multiple atoms, 3 in the case of water.

Going back to the question of whether the edge of broken porcelain could be the width of one atom, I think what I found out is that crystalline solids be formed in such a way that an edge, if looked at closely enough, would be a line of atoms. The edge would be one atom thick (thin, actually. Very very thin.) I'm not totally sure about this. I am sure that they've made tungsten tips that come to a point that is exactly one atom.

Plus, I'm kind a pissed that its so easy to break a window. On the other hand the guy needed a hammer to get the thing in the first place.

It's hard to break a car window with a hammer. It's also loud.
