A new hit country song has gotten my attention for lyrical style.

The refrain begins:

She was like, oh my god, this is my song

Then later it says:

She was like, come here boy, I wanna dance

It is one thing to be a blithering, babbling airhead with weak conversational skills - it's a sign of the times - but to put it formally into a song lyric?

Kinda like, ugh.

Bias here because we live next to a country bar that we frequent quite often and they are country people and enjoy that type of thing. The bands that come there are 99% country bands that play that ype of thing for people who enjoy that type of thing. I have wondered, can I get to enjoy this type of thing? Because it would be convenient if so. Then we'll play some Born on the Bayou on the jukebox and I'll instantly enjoy THAT type of thing without trying.

So my thesis statement is - that type of thing sucks.

I bet you can find more than one country song that covers all the following topics:

1. I'm late on my credit card payments
2. My son has a terrible acne problem
3. The phone company sucks
4. My ex is a raging alcoholic
5. Still, I wouldn't trade my life for anyone else's

Bacon definitely hates country music. He gets incredibly annoyed and aggravated by it. I've never seen someone hate it so much.

Me personally, I'm indifferent. There a few songs I like, and some I could do with out.

It wasn't a silly topic for a song I was attempting to draw attention to, it was the gum-snapping-teen-girl choice of words. You clods.

She was like, o my god, this is my song.

Within the rhythm of the song it would be absolutely no problem to say

She said, oh my god, this is my song.

But they chose to go with

She was like, oh my god . . .

It is Miley Cyrus' world; we just live in it.

A current country lyric for a sweet-voiced female that I kinda like:

We scratched our names
In that oak tree
'Cause I loved you
And you loved me
A jagged little heart so the whole town knew it
Carved in the bark with an arrow through it
I came out here to see it one more time

And I got my chainsaw
Oh you know it's got to go, it's such a shame y'all
But I ain't gonna be happy until those names fall
And I'm sittin' on a stump

Love that song...it's on my ITunes....may have posted that videoi inwhat are you listening to..Band Perry rocks:chickendance: Thought the lyrics were clever. "It's hard to bury the hatchet holding a chainsaw"

I always find it weird when a song gets sued for sounding like another song. I can think of a number of cases over the years.

He's so Fine / My Sweet Lord
Ghostbusters / I Want a New Drug

Apparently there is a fairly recent decision where the Sam Smith song, Stay With Me - which I have been hearing around here for the last while and has sold millions of copies - was "convicted" of ripping off Tom Petty's, I Won't Back Down.

As I say, I just find it weird. I hear the similarity but it is a totally different tempo and instrumentation. There are a zillion songs in the universe; I feel like simple melodies are going to be kinda repeated. It's just inevitable.

But tada! - Petty and his cowriter Jeff Lynne are now credited as co-writers on Stay With Me.
