Pretty fucking far. Takes a bit over 2 hours on my 🏍
plus its not on a major highway like the 401, so its a bit of a drive with lower speed limits on the secondary single lane highways like 26.

I like Owen Sound. Used to drive the bus there back in the day. It IS in the snowbelt and you will get a fukkin ton of snow in the winter, even when it is bone dry in Toronto etc.

So the guy goes home one day and sees water damage. Next thing you know, kid is in another city, wife is who knows where, and guy is bumming around somewhere on somebody's couch? :clueless: And now this guy figures he's gonna have to change cities for good. All because of a broken pipe.
Only in America!

That was the last little nudge we needed. You try living and working in 600sq ft with two other people. You try co-sleeping with a 6yo and having to jerk off to memories of sex with your wife (not at the same time).

Matty, I’m sorry about the house damage. This move that you are considering, were you considering it before the flood?

We were going to move into a larger condo in the same neighborhood in 7-8 months (after paying off our 2014 wedding 😝), but we were also starting to cool off on the whole Toronto thing. A lot of our friends have moved out of the city over the last couple years and we were finding ourselves a bit isolated lately.

Also, the idea of sending our kid to school in a COVID hotspot wasn't all that appealing, nor was the option to do remote learning without help from family (everyone lives far away from the city).

So yeah, when I came home to wavy, moldy flooring, I half-jokingly texted wifey to ask her how much was a 3br apt in Owen Sound and she admitted that she had been looking at listings. We never even talked about it - that's how in sync we are about this.

For the record, one can get 3 bedrooms for the price of 1 in Owen Sound. Literally 3 for 1.

Not gonna lie, we're still a bit wary of the winters there and the potentially shit broadband Internet. We both need our fast Internet.

I dunno. Landlord is assessing the water damage right now - we might get "reno-victed" in which case the Owen Sound thing is a done deal. If he agrees to move out our shit, fix the unit and move our stuff back in, it'll be a different matter.

One thing that is playing in Toronto's favor is that rent prices are crashing right now. We had budgeted $2800 to move into a 2br, but now we might get a nicer 2+2 for the same price. And we really like the neighborhood, and the view. We would want another south or west-facing unit at least 15 floors up.

A nice view is uplifting.
