Electronic trail helped MLB with bans

NEW YORK -- Facebook friends. Transcripts of BlackBerry instant messages. Records of texts.

Major League Baseball investigators used an arsenal of high-tech tools to collect the evidence that persuaded a dozen players to accept 50-game suspensions this week for their ties to the Biogenesis clinic.

Monkey staying primitive with technology!

Check your yard the next couple days. I have sent you a postcard with a pigeon.

Baseball fanboiz (I guess it applies to all sports) can be such dipshits. I swear I heard this today during some Blue Jays discussion:

They should hold onto their core players for next year because, while they have obviously had their struggles, when they win, they look like a juggernaut.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll take it a step further. When they win, they are undefeated. They are the best team in the history of baseball if you don't count the losses.

I mean :fok:

Well it's bout time! Just hope the people in the booth don't take forever deciding!

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- Major League Baseball decided Thursday to implement instant replay on virtually every play but the strikezone - including three manager's challenges per game - that will begin in 2014, Commissioner Bud Selig announced.

The replay will include up to three challenges that mangers will be provided during a game, one in the first six innings, and two beginning in the seventh inning through the game's duration. If a manager is successful with his replay challenge, he will not be charged with a review.

If a manager exhausts his three challenges, and umpire crew can make a review of its own only to determine home-run calls, a rule that will be grandfathered in with the new regulations.

Baseball, using its central MLBAM offices in New York, will be provided with replay cameras that will be monitored by men with umpiring experience. They will make the final call on disputed plays, not the crew chief.

Always seemed to me too many umps out of position to be able to make the right calls at a more proficient rate! Lazy and arrogant bastards, especially some of the younger guys!

I am surprised - I expected them to drag their feet more - but good for them in general. I don't like the details of the rules for challenges but at least they're going in the right direction.

I don't know why they are dragging their feet on the balls/strikes but whatever, it's only a matter of time.

I wonder if they will have harsher penalties for managers having tantrums now. Will managers still find reasons to have tantrums? Oh probably.

They are randomly mad. There are always going to people hurt because someone wants to leave and some are also mad because the Blue Jays upper management let him.

I was like, "Who cares? It's not like he was leading us to the promised land. Why the fok does Boston even want the guy? He's never done anything."

I still don't get it, but I guess it looks like something now because of circumstance. Last year he was a way-below-500 manager and this year he's a playoff manager. Personally I think that is about the players but people want stuff to mean stuff.

Sure. Strikezone calls will certainly still fuel some hostility. Might be one of the reasons they left it like that.

I'd actually rather see an ump behind the plate than the cameras they use now. I really don't think they're there yet for calling the strikezone anyway. They only show one plane of where the ball crosses on broadcasts anyway.

The 5 hour baseball games should be fun.

If we're dusting off the 80's throwback anti-replay arguments, might as well also lob in a

- bad calls even out in the long run
- I like the human element

One good thing I heard. They will have a rule that managers can't argue a call and then challenge. That would be a pretty obvious stall tactic to have your own boys upstairs evaluate if a challenge is worthwhile.

But nope. Not allowed. No-brainer I guess.
