Ruf has a short powerful swing and looks very good so far at the plate! Played last 3 games in LF but surprisingly has had only a few balls hit his way! If he hits then he plays LF in 2013 no matter what! Not many options!

Yes, you did KNOW IT! They looked so good though but you kept saying sell off for down the road!

I'm quite surprised that Texas managed to cough it up and not win that division. All credit to Oakland of course.

That's a helluva costly difference: instead of having a full series to work with you start with that one-game wildcard playoff.

Dayum.

Texas was in 1st for 178straight days. Oakland was in 1st 1 day. Third team ever to lead for a day and win the division/league ('51 Giants, 2006 Twins).

Here's what I don't get. I keep hearing about how the Red Sox want to lure Manager John Farrell away from the Blue Jays. I have been hearing this for more than a year. It keeps coming up.

For a long time I figured it was just paranoid nonsense, Toronto fans over-valuing their assets. Like seriously, why would a team known for spending big money that could go after anyone in the world be focused on some nobody who has done nothing that is under contract and they would have to give up compensation for?

But the story won't go away. Apparently there really is a tug-of-war for John Farrell.

John Farrell? Seriously, you want our John Farrell?

Like obviously the Jays should try and get the most they can for him but basically I'm thinking: help yourself.

Maybe see if we can sell them some pliers while we're at it.

Does the manager really matter in baseball? Like if the Yankees get the worst manager in baseball and the Royals get the best and keep the same players do you think the Royals will have a better record than the Yankees at the end of the season?

I would guess that a manager can make some difference. It is not a day-and-night thing like that Yankees/Royals scenario but I'm sure there are things, both strategically and motivationally that a manager influences. As with most things, smarts and experience count.

There are some things that are absolute nonsense IMO. Like there is nothing that Phil Jackson can say out loud that won't have some media guys saying, "He's the master. He is getting in everyones heads and influencing every player/ref/whatever in his favor." And it's bullshit. (I know that's not baseball but it's just an example).

But I think there are subtle things a manager can influence.

But not John Farrell.

Can you have co-AL MVP's? How do you decide between Cabrera and Trout?

I think the tie breaker should be the guy who helped his team most to achieve their goals. Cabrera helped Tigers win AL Central. Trout's team is second to last in AL West.

Like for example if Messi scored 60 goals and Barcelona are 2nd but Ronaldo scored 55 goals and Real are first at the end of the season Ronaldo should be the MVP.

You can have co-MVPs.

About Farrell, does he have Boston ties? The Valentine hire was the perfect example of a meddling owner. He had last years staff who was loyal to Francona. Throwing Youk under the bus was a horrible message sent to the rest of the team and they quit on him.
