It is still not finalized whether or not the NHLers will go to the 2018 Olympics in PyeongChang. I am leaning more and more to the NO side (in terms of what I predict, not what I want. I definitely want them there.) But business-wise the Olympics have been a terrible deal for the NHL going back to 1998. Ridiculous really.
Like hey, why don't you interrupt your whole schedule for 3 weeks and risk injury to your best players, and in exchange you will get some vague, undefinable amount of publicity maybe. :muddy:
But also, I guess it pleases a lot of elite players.
But anyway, with the World Cup up and running, I could definitely see 2018 being the year the NHL says a flat NO to the Olympics. If for no other reason, to make a point and force a sweetening of the deal for future games. Give those IOC lummoxes a kick in their big, fat, complacent asses.
