It's not the simplest language to learn.

What's practical? Unless you plan on living in, or working for, an area that has a critical mass of French speakers, it's not very useful. But that applies to any language.

Actually one thing that is cool is I see more emphasis on things like the really hot girls going to the prom with some of the disabled students and it being hyped, I say hype that shit up because it's a beautiful thing.
