Almost every Olympics as long as I remember had portents of doom as the games approach. People predicting things wouldn't be ready and there would be all kinds of organizational/circumstantial disasters - but then the games start and everything is basically fine and all the doom-sayers are forgotten.

Rio certainly has the negativity in the lead-up. I wonder how it will go.

I totally forgot the opening ceremonies were on last night. Not that I would have sat and watched but it would be normal to do a lot of checking in.

My normal pattern with Olympics is to start with an awareness and get increasingly interested as they go along. Nowhere to go but up in this case.
